Those who have skill in their hands are made to sit at the back… Rahul Gandhi attacks BJP over Dalits in Kolhapur

Congress MP and Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi, while addressing a gathering in Kolhapur, Maharashtra on Saturday, attacked the BJP government fiercely. He said that there is no information about the history of Dalits and backward classes. Their history is being removed from the books.
Congress leader and Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi on Saturday attacked the BJP over the condition of Dalits in the country. Addressing a gathering in Kolhapur, Maharashtra, he said that those who have skill in their hands are made to sit at the back. They have no place either in the book or in history.
Rahul Gandhi said that if you look at the OBC community, as soon as I shook hands with Swapnil Kumhar, who gave me a statue. As soon as I made contact with his hand, I understood that there is skill in this hand. People make those who have skill sit at the back.
He said that this is happening 24 hours a day in India. I never studied the history of Dalits and backward classes in school. Today, the opposite is happening. Their history is being removed from the books. Education is not possible without history, without understanding one’s place and position.
Dalits are being discriminated against: Rahul Gandhi
Rahul Gandhi said that those who have skills in their hands, have experience in their hands. You call them barber, Chamba, artisan, craftsman. Their history is not in our history. Nothing has been said about them. What did they do, how did they do it. Rahul Gandhi said that there is no information about how they were discriminated against.
He said that I never studied the history of Dalits and backward classes in school. Today, the opposite is happening. Whatever history is there is being erased. Education is not possible without history, without one’s place. If we talk about education, then it is natural for questions to arise. Who controls the educational institutions? You see education. Everything is being privatized. If a poor child wants to become a doctor, lawyer, then it is okay, he can dream.
The country is lying to them
He said that I met everyone in Bharat Jodo Yatra. Children were saying that they will become doctors and engineers, but our country is lying to them. How many percent were engineers, doctors and lawyers? 70 percent, 80 percent. They are showing dreams to their children. Lakhs of rupees are being extorted from them. One does not get admission in any educational institution by showing dreams.
Rahul Gandhi said that on the contrary it is being said that the country will become a superpower. How to become a superpower. Adani and Ambani can go into any business. But our idol maker started dreaming of another way to make idols. Rahul Gandhi said that if there is a need for funding, then it will be known in 15 minutes that the way is closed.
He said that I told the story of Chakravyuh in Parliament. Chakravyuh is Padma Vyuh. Abhimanyu was killed by the formation of Vyuh. It was being run by six people. Even today it is the same maze. It is Padma Vyuh. It is still run by six people. History is being changed. Ask the Vice Chancellor of RSS if there was untouchability in the country, he will say there was never untouchability

Amethi Dalit family murder case: Prime accused shifted to district jail in Raebareli.

Chandan Verma was shot by the police on October 5 while they were trying to recover the pistol he allegedly used in the killing
Police take away Chandan Verma after he sustained injuries on his right leg following an encounter with the police early Saturday morning, Oct. 5, 2024.
Chandan Verma, accused of killing a Dalit family in Amethi, has been shifted to the district jail here, officials said on Sunday.
Verma (35), who was arrested on Friday, was shot by the police on Saturday while they were trying to recover the pistol he allegedly used in the killing. The government school teacher, his 32-year-old wife Poonam and their two daughters, Drishti and Suni, were shot dead in the Ahorwa Bhawani area of Amethi on October 3.
During the initial investigation, the police found that Poonam had lodged an FIR against the accused in Rae Bareli on August 18 for eve-teasing and under the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989.
The complainant had also mentioned that “if anything happens to her or her family”, Verma should be held responsible for it.
Verma, a resident of Raebareli, told the police that he reached the victims’ house on Thursday, got enraged over a discussion there and shot the family members.
He confessed to killing all four of them.
Verma said he had an affair with Poonam for the last 18 months, adding the relationship later turned due to which he got stressed and this led to the killings.
The accused also said that he had tried to kill himself but the pistol misfired, the police said.
Superintendent of Police Anoop Kumar Singh earlier said that Verma had fired 10 shots from a pistol.
Referring to a social media post by Verma, Singh said, “He intended to shoot himself after killing the four family members. He was the fifth person but his suicide attempt failed.” The bodies of the Dalit school teacher and his wife, who were shot dead along with their two daughters, were consigned to flames on Saturday at the Gola Ganga Ghat here, while the children were buried.
Bhanu, the brother of the deceased woman Poonam, has refuted Verma’s claims of illicit relationship with his sister.
“He (Chandan) used to force my sister to speak with him. He also took pictures with her forcefully that are now being circulated,” Bhanu told reporters here.

Congress MP Kumari Selja denied she would push her way through to stake claim for Haryana Chief Minister's post. "Why should I stake claim? Stay away from this mindset, that people stake claim," she said
Congress MP Kumari Selja told NDTV today she is confident her party will cross 60 seats in Haryana. An aggregate of seven exit polls have indicated the Congress will win 55 of Haryana's 90 seats - comfortably ahead of the halfway mark of 46.
Health warning: exit polls often get it wrong.
With the forecast of a Congress win in Haryana, the focus has moved to who would be the next Chief Minister. Former Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, Randeep Surjewala, and Ms Selja herself have made their ambition known to the public, much before the election. This had raised a situation of infighting.
Ms Selja has made it clear she is very much in the race for the top post, but it won't be through the traditional "staking claim" optics.
"Every state has groups. It is a part of politics. Why point fingers at Haryana or my party? This has been there, not just during elections. On the ground all of us have worked hard together," Ms Selja told NDTV.
Ms Selja is not amenable to the idea of making MLAs select the Chief Minister, as according to her this could lead to more factionalism. Instead, the high command should take the big decision, she said.
"I have always felt in all these years, including during discussions with the high command, that a national party has to take a political view on things. And that is what should be the main consideration in choosing people, anytime, anywhere, any post, as to what we want to do, what we want to show, what we want to present. Apart from that, it is always the high command's last word which counts," she said.
"I feel even at that time and this time, counting MLAs etc is not a healthy thing for any party. I think it is the high command which should take a decision. Otherwise people get tied down... that I feel also leads to further factionalism," Ms Selja added.
She asked people to come out from the mindset that sees voters as compartmentalised entities and not supportive of one another. Ms Selja, who is a Dalit, said people from all sections of society in Haryana support her.
"Haryana can give me space. It is you people who have to come out of the mindset that Haryana is like this, Haryana is like that. I can assure you that I have support from all sections of society. Don't fall into this trap, propagated by vested interests. Move away and move forward," she said.
"All sections have supported the party. Dalits have supported. Not just them, others also. We have to move away from dominance of one segment because that's also not doing any justice to that one segment. You're isolating them and that doesn't help," Ms Selja said.
The aggregate of exit polls shows the BJP could end up with 27 seats each in Haryana and Jammu and Kashmir. One exit poll, Jist-TIF Research, gave the BJP an outside margin of 37 seats - the maximum - in Haryana.
Efforts being made to erase history of Dalits, backward classes: Rahul Gandhi
Gandhi also again called for removing the current 50 per cent cap on reservations, arguing that doing so is crucial to safeguarding the Constitution
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said on Saturday that not much was taught in schools about the history of Dalit and those belonging to the Backward Classes. Speaking at the “Samvidhan Samman Sammelan” in Kolhapur, he attacked the Bharatiya Janata Party-led government at the Centre saying that efforts are on to now erase even the little facts that is known or taught about them.

“I am sharing my own experience. Maybe your experience could be different. I haven’t learnt that much but the history of the Dalits or backward classes in school. Now even the limited history that is being taught is being erased,” said Gandhi.
“The history of those considered skilled workforces such as barbers, cobblers, and factory workers is not there in our education system. There is nothing being told about these classes right from the struggle and the discrimination they face,” he said.
Gandhi also again called for removing the current 50 per cent cap on reservations, arguing that doing so is crucial to safeguarding the Constitution.
He assured that the INDIA bloc would work towards passing laws in Parliament to achieve this goal.
“We will make sure the 50 per cent cap on reservation is lifted in both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, and nothing can stop it. This step is essential for protecting the Constitution,” Gandhi reiterated.
He emphasized that the Congress and the INDIA bloc are committed to enacting legislation that would also pave the way for a caste-based census.
Gandhi had in the past during the campaign for Lok Sabha elections repeatedly called for removing the 50 per cent cap on reservation while also demanding a caste census.
At the programme, Gandhi elaborated on the need for a caste census, highlighting two key aspects: identifying the population of each community and examining their control over the nation’s financial system. He argued that such a census would provide crucial data on the composition of India’s different communities.
According to Gandhi, 90 per cent of India’s population is being denied opportunities. He claimed that the country’s budget is shaped by a small group of 90 top IAS officers, with only three belonging to the OBC community, despite OBCs making up at least 50 per cent of the population.
“Similarly, Dalits and Adivasis, who constitute 15 per cent and 8 per cent of the population respectively, have only three and one officers from their communities among the top decision-makers,” he added.
Earlier in the day, Gandhi attacked the Bharatiya Janata Party-led government, saying there was no use of bowing before Shivaji Maharaj after scaring people and destroying the Constitution and institutions in the country.
“There is no use in bowing before Shivaji Maharaj after scaring people and destroying the Constitution and institutions in the country,” he said.
His comments were apparently targeted at Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who had apologised to Shivaji Maharaj and those hurt by the collapse of his statue. “Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj is not just a name or a king. For us, he is our deity. Today, I bow my head at his feet and apologise to my deity,” Modi had said on August 30 during his visit to Maharashtra.
The 35-foot statue of Shivaji Maharaj, which collapsed on August 26, was unveiled by the PM on December 4, 2023, on the occasion of Navy Day.
“There are two ideologies in the country - one which protects the Constitution that talks of equality and unity. This is Shivaji Maharaj’s ideology. The second ideology is the one that is into destroying the Constitution,” said Gandhi.
“They get up in the morning and plan how to destroy the Constitution, which is based on the ideals of the Shivaji Maharaj. They attack the institutions of the country, scare and threaten people and then bow before Shivaji’s statue. There is no use of it. If you pray before Shivaji’s statue, then you have to protect the Constitution,” he said.
He said the intentions are visible and cannot be hidden.
“They built Shivaji Maharaj’s statue and in a few days, it collapsed. Their intentions were not right. The statue gave them the message that if you built Shivaji Maharaj’s statue then you have to follow his ideals. Which is why the statue collapsed because their ideology is wrong,” he said.
When Shivaji Maharaj was to be coronated, it was the same ideology that did not allow his coronation. This is not new, he said.
“This is the same ideology that Shivaji Maharaj fought with. Congress is fighting with the same ideology that Shivaji Maharaj fought with,” Gandhi added.
