Can BJP make a Dalit the national president in the new year? The atmosphere has been created in 2024 itself!

BJP President: The election of the national president of BJP is to be held in January. Who will BJP make its president? A lot of speculation has been going on for a long time regarding this question. In this connection, some political experts/political pundits are speculating that BJP can appoint a Dalit to this post.
Written By Shwetank Ratnamber
BJP New President: India’s first right-wing party Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was founded on 6 April 1980. From Atal Bihari Vajpayee to JP Nadda, all the veteran leaders have watered the BJP’s flower garden with their blood and sweat during their tenure as presidents in the journey to become the country’s largest garden. Nadda’s tenure ended in January. The party had extended it till June for the Lok Sabha elections. BJP had to elect its new president in July 2024.
Now, before electing a new president, organisational elections need to be held, which takes 6 months. Hence, Nadda’s term was extended by another 6 months in June. Nadda is currently a Union Minister, but the names of many bigwigs are being considered for the post of the new president. Some are saying Sunil Bansal, while some are saying Vinod Tawde is ahead in the race. Meanwhile, speculations are also being made that BJP may appoint a Dalit as its president.
At present, the state units of BJP are busy conducting elections for booth, district and divisional presidents. Soon, the central leadership of BJP will appoint state presidents in the states. During this time, at least half of the states are expected to get new presidents. Only after this, BJP will start the process of electing its new national president. It is being said that BJP, which has burnt its hands in the Lok Sabha elections, will also keep in mind the wishes of its parent organization RSS, because the current BJP president JP Nadda had said in an interview before the Lok Sabha elections that today’s Bharatiya Janata Party is now capable on its own, it does not need anyone’s support. However, when the results of the Lok Sabha elections came and BJP fell short of a full majority by 32 seats on its own, people taunted that this was the result of Nadda’s statement in which he had talked about moving forward by sidelining the RSS.
Selection Process – Eligibility
The winner in the election of the new president will undoubtedly have the stamp of approval of the duo of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah. In this way, the existing system of the final decision of both of them will continue in the BJP. According to sources, it is being said that Prime Minister Modi will choose a person as the National President of the Bharatiya Janata Party, who has a strong organizational background and also has the support of the RSS.
This era of the most successful pair of Modi-Shah in BJP started in the year 2014. Earlier, the top leadership of BJP was known to turn to RSS before every important decision. When Narendra Modi became the Prime Minister, Amit Shah was made the BJP President. At that time, JP Nadda was also among the RSS’s choices for the post of President.
Shah’s surprise entry
But Amit Shah, who became the new Chanakya of the party and mastermind of the 2014 Mahajeet, was elected as the national president of the party due to his organisational skills. Because the BJP-led NDA had won a spectacular victory. BJP came to power with an absolute majority for the first time. Especially in politically important Uttar Pradesh where BJP won 73 out of 80 seats.
Formula for electing a new president
Congress, which lost three consecutive Lok Sabha elections from 2014 to 2024, is now using the name of Baba Saheb Ambedkar as a weapon to lower the morale of BJP. Before the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, Congress created an atmosphere by setting such a narrative to counter BJP’s slogan of 400 plus that if BJP wins the elections, it will end reservation. Through this move, Congress tried to make a dent in BJP’s SC votes. Congress was successful to some extent but it could not remove BJP from power.
Alleged theory of Dalit president
According to the report of Indian Express, Congress lost the elections but its morale was so high after winning 48 seats in 2019 and 99 seats in 2024 that it has been cornering BJP in the name of saving the Constitution till now. Some such events took place in the winter session of Parliament that Congress once again started calling BJP anti-Dalit. In such a situation, to counter the claims and allegations of Congress, it is being said that this time BJP can make a leader coming from the Dalit community as its national president.
According to sources, the second aspect of the speculations of Dalit theory is that the current national president of the country’s oldest party Congress, Mallikarjun Kharge, comes from the Dalit community. Congress is constantly calling BJP anti-Dalit. In such a situation, to give an equal answer to Congress and to end this issue, a Dalit national president can also be launched by BJP.
Sources also say that Nadda is a Brahmin and Modi is an OBC, and BR Ambedkar is a topic of discussion at this time, so BJP can look for a Dalit face.
The third argument is that the BJP leadership will keep caste factors in mind while choosing the new party chief.
Options are limited
However, if we talk about Dalit leaders with strong organizational base and support of RSS, then BJP has very limited options. BJP leaders often say that BJP is an inclusive party. It is a party that takes along every caste and religion. In this context, examples of former presidents of the country, Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, Ramnath Kovind and now the current President Draupadi Murmu have been given. Now it is being said that these examples have become old now. Therefore, there is a need to do and create something new.
These 3 names are coming forward
Although no one says anything openly inside, but if this criteria is to be taken in choosing the new BJP chief, then according to sources, the names of Union Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal, Party General Secretary Dushyant Gautam and Uttar Pradesh Minister Baby Rani Maurya are being speculated.
It is being said inside that in the Modi-Shah era, there has been a tradition of giving surprises in the selection of every major post like Chief Ministers. In such a situation, this selection of the party president can also be surprising. However, in this alleged ‘Dalit Theory’, the names that are being speculated for this post so far include Manohar Lal Khattar, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Bhupendra Yadav and Dharmendra Pradhan as well as senior leader Vinod Tawde. However, according to party sources, these speculations are also baseless.

According to the teen's family, he was invited to a birthday party by a local on the night of December 20. During the celebrations, he was stripped, brutally beaten, and urinated upon by four individuals who also allegedly recorded the act on their phones.
The accused later threatened to make the video viral. The boy pleaded with the alleged accused to delete the video, but they humiliated him further, forcing him to lick his spit, the family alleged.
Traumatised, the young boy returned home, shared the incident with his parents, and then ended his life by hanging himself.
The grieving family took the body to a nearby police station, demanding immediate action. However, they allege that the authorities initially failed to register a case or take any action.
The family then carried the boy's body to the Basti's Superintendent of Police (SP) office and staged a sit-in protest. It was only after hours of agitation that the police registered a case and assured them of action, they said.
The victim's mother accused the police of corruption, alleging that they were shielding the accused by not acting promptly. Meanwhile, the boy's uncle said that the motive behind the assault remained unclear, but he suspected prior animosity.
Basti's Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Pradeep Kumar Tripathi confirmed that a case had been registered based on the family's complaint. The victim's body has been sent for postmortem, and an investigation is underway.

Dalit man beaten to death over suspicion of theft in Chhattisgarh
According to the police, he was tied to a pole and assaulted with sticks; three men were arrested
Published - December 23, 2024 08:31 pm IST - RAIPUR
A 50-year-old Dalit man was beaten to death by a mob over suspicion of theft in Chhattisgarh’s Raigarh district, the police said.
The police arrested three persons in connection with the incident in Dumarpali village, nearly 250 km from capital Raipur. According to the police, the victim, Panch Ram Sarthi, was tied to a pole and assaulted with sticks.
Raigarh Superintendent of Police Divyang Patel said the police received information that Sarthi was caught and assaulted at the residence of Virendra Sidar in Dumarpali on Sunday. He added that based on the information, a case under Section 103(1) of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita was registered and Sidar, along with accomplices Ajay Pradhan and Ashok Pradhan, were arrested.
The accused allegedly told the police that Sarthi entered Sidar’s house around 2:00 a.m., and Sidar, who was sleeping, woke up and caught him. “After this, he, along with his neighbours, tied him with a plastic rope and thrashed him with sticks, which resulted in his death,” said a senior police officer.
Local activists demanded a high level probe and claimed that such incidents against Dalits have happened before too.
“This is not the first incident of lynching of Dalits after accusing them of theft in Chhattisgarh. Earlier, in Lailunga police station of Raigarh district, Arvind Sarathi, a Dalit, was beaten to death in the police station after he was accused of theft. While hearing that case, the then District Sessions and Special Judge raised doubts over the police investigation and asked the Chhattisgarh government to order a Central Bureau of Investigation [CBI].
Rahul Gandhi Meets Maharashtra Dalit Activist's Family, BJP Says "Drama"
BSP chief Mayawati has taken a swipe, saying that Rahul Gandhi's visit is only to shed "crocodile tears" and that the Congress remembers Dalits only in its bad time.
Rahul Gandhi spoke to the media after meeting the family of the Dalit activist in Parbhani
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi today visited Maharashtra's Parbhani today and met the family of a Dalit activist who died in custody. Activist-lawyer Somnath Suryawanshi died after he was arrested in connection with the violence over alleged vandalism of a replica of the Constitution. Mr Gandhi, Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha, landed in Nanded airport and proceeded to Parbhani.
"I met the family and those who were assaulted. I was shown the postmortem report, photographs and videos. This is custodial death. Police killed him. The Chief Minister lied in Assembly to send a message to cops. This youth was killed because he was a Dalit and was protecting the Constitution. RSS' ideology is to finish the Constitution. We want this matter to be probed and those guilty to be be punished," he said after meeting the family.
The alleged vandalism on December 10 sparked violence and around 300 people, most of them Dalits, were taken into custody. Suryawanshi, 35, was among them. Three days later, he was found dead in judicial custody.
The death has sparked a massive row, with the Opposition bloc Maha Vikas Aghadi targeting the Devendra Fadnavis government. Mr Fadnavis has announced a compensation of Rs 10 lakh for the activist's family. In his response to a question on his death, the Chief Minister has said when Suryavanshi was produced in court, the magistrate asked him if police had tortured him. He replied in the negative, the Chief Minister said.
The family, however, has demanded a death sentence for the police officer concerned. "The police didn't give any information regarding my brother after they arrested him. On December 15, they informed me that my brother died of a heart attack. Those involved in this incident must be punished. Suspending them is of no use. They should be punished because they have killed my brother. We want them to hang till death. We will say the same to Rahul Gandhi," Premnath Suryawanshi, the activist's brother, told news agency ANI.
Mr Gandhi's visit has, meanwhile, drawn jabs from rival parties. State BJP has termed it a "drama". "Instead of doing such drama, the focus should be on how society can benefit through constructive means," state BJP chief and minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule said.
"Unfortunate incidents like Parbhani happened as a result of disrespect/insult towards the original architect of the Indian Constitution, the most revered Babasaheb Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar and the feeling of inferiority towards his crores of followers. It is proved that Congress and BJP are not their true well-wishers, everyone's intentions and policies are flawed," Mayawati said in a post on X.
Referring to Mr Gandhi's visit, she said, "The Congress leader's visit today to Parbhani is nothing more than shedding crocodile tears. The Congress' attitude towards the interests and welfare of Babasaheb and his followers has always been casteist and contemptuous, both during his lifetime and after his death. They remember the Dalits and backward classes only in their bad times."
Mr Gandhi's visit to Parbhani comes against the backdrop of the massive row surrounding Union Home Minister Amit Shah's remarks on Dalit icon and architect of the Constitution BR Ambedkar.
Addressing the House during the debate to mark 75 years of the Constitution, Mr Shah said taking BR Ambedkar's name had become a "fashion" now. "Abhi ek fashion ho gaya hai - Ambedkar, Ambedkar, Ambedkar, Ambedkar, Ambedkar, Ambedkar. Itna naam agar bhagwan ka lete to saat janmon tak swarg mil jata (It has become a fashion to say Ambedkar, Ambedkar, Ambedkar, Ambedkar, Ambedkar, Ambedkar'. If they took God's name so many times, they would have got a place in heaven)," he said.
The Home Minister added, "Take his name 100 times more, but I want to say what are your sentiments about him." He said BR Ambedkar had to resign from the first Cabinet following his disagreement with the Jawaharlal Nehru-led government. "Ambedkar ji has said several times that he was not satisfied with the treatment of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes," he said, adding that BR Ambedkar was also unhappy with the government's policy approach and its stand on Article 370. "He wanted to quit (the cabinet), he was given an assurance, and when the assurance was not fulfilled, he resigned," Mr Shah said.
Opposition parties have alleged that the Home Minister had insulted the Dalit icon and demanded an apology and his resignation. The Home Minister has hit back, accusing the Congress of twisting his words and misleading people.
