Dalit youth urinated upon in row over girl; 2nd case in Andhra Pradesh

• VIJAYAWADA: A Dalit youth from Kanchikacherla village in NTR district of Andhra Pradesh was allegedly kidnapped, abused, beaten up and urinated upon by his old friend and five others from an upper caste community over a girl.
  

Though the incident took place on November 1, it came to light on Sunday after a few local politicians protested alleging increase in violent attacks against Dalits and tribals.

The police arrested all the six accused and launched further investigation. The victim was identified as Kandru Shyam Kumar (21), a resident of Sanjeevanagar Colony in Kanchikacherla village under Vijayawada city police limits. This is the second incident of a youngster being urinated upon in the state this year.

The police identified the accused as S Harish Reddy (22), who is prime accused in the case, G Anil Kumar (22), B Srikanth Reddy (23), S Vishnu Vardhan Reddy (23) and M Nagarjuna Reddy (22), all native of Ganapavaram village in Prakasam district, and D Venkat Laxmi Narayana (24), a native of Guntur district.
Victim held captive for over 4 hours
According to the police, though Harish Reddy and Shyam Kumar were friends during the college days, they turned foes in a dispute over a girl.

Except Harish Reddy, the remaining accused have no links with the victim and they were friends of Harish Reddy.

The Kanchikacherla police said that when the victim was in his hometown on November 1, Harish Reddy called him and asked him to come to Sivasai Kshetram, a nearby locality. When Shyam Kumar went there, Harish Reddy and his friends pushed him into a car and took him to Guntur district.
They then thrashed him inside the car, and the victim was held captive by the six accused for more than four hours.

When the victim became weak and asked for drinking water, the accused allegedly urinated on him.

The accused also took away some cash and a gold chain from the victim. Later, the accused abandoned the victim at an isolated place in Guntur district and fled from the spot. The victim managed to reach his hometown and approached the police.

Pudukottai: Dalit boy from TN dies by suicide after he’s attacked for talking to girl of dominant caste

The school students belonging to a dominant caste allegedly thrashed the victim, who had been speaking to a girl from that community. The incident was reported in Tamil Nadu’s Pudukkottai district which had notably witnessed many similar incidents of caste atrocities in the past.

Pudukottai: A 16-year-old boy belonging to a Scheduled Caste community allegedly died by suicide at his house in Koppampatti village of Pudukottai district after being allegedly assaulted by students belonging to a dominant caste for befriending a girl from their community.

According to local sources, the victim identified as V Vishnukumar, a Class 11 student of Government Boys Higher Secondary School at Keeranur was beaten up by more than ten dominant caste students (a few of them were his classmates) for talking to a girl who belongs to Most Back Community (MBC). He was beaten up and harassed continuously by the school students of the dominant caste for befriending their community girl.About a few weeks back, he was beaten up in the Keeranur bus stand in full public view for having spoken to the girl of their community. Similarly, on Friday the Dalit boy who was studying in Class 11 was again thrashed for the same reason. They also allegedly humiliated him with caste slurs. A day after this incident, the Dalit boy allegedly resorted to the extreme step.

The victim’s father Veeramuthu works as a labourer in Erode and his mother is a daily wage labourer. They have lodged a police complaint blaming caste atrocity as the reason behind his death and sought action against those responsible.

The Udayalipatti police have registered a case under SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities Act and IPC section 306 (abetment of suicide) and further inquiry is headed by Deputy Superintendent Police of Keeranur Subdivision.

NCSC director visits Krishnagiri village days after caste clash over temple

Collector KM Sarayu and Superintendent of Police Saroj Kumar Thakur also visited the village along with the director and interacted with the people injured in the clash.

KRISHNAGIRI: National Commission for Scheduled Castes (NCSC) Director S Ravivarman visited Sokkadi village near Krishnagiri, where violence broke out between Dalits and caste Hindus, last Sunday.

Collector KM Sarayu and Superintendent of Police Saroj Kumar Thakur also visited the village along with the director and interacted with the people injured in the clash. Ravivarman asked officials to ensure protection for the people and urged the district administration to take necessary steps to provide compensation.

Later, a section of villagers and volunteers from Neelam Cultural Centre submitted a petition to Ravivarman to take action against the absconded accused C Rajan (60) and revoke the case filed against 13 Dalits. “The district administration assured the people to take appropriate action,” Convener of Neelam Cultural Centre A Udhaya Kumar told TNIE.
