Dalit family left village due to fear of bullies

Bachhwara (Begusarai) Begusarai is not infamous for crime in Bihar for nothing, if we look at the activities of anti-social elements here, then this saying fits that “If the husband is the police officer, then why fear” This is a living example of this. Fed up with the terror and bullying of anti-social elements in ward number 11 Balu of Chamatha Ek Panchayat of Bachhwara police station, a Paswan family is forced to leave the village. Anti-social elements are also spreading terror among the people by displaying weapons on social media.
Let us tell you that last Friday, Manukiya Devi, wife of Kedar Paswan, resident of ward number 11 of Chamatha Ek Panchayat and nephew Rajan Paswan were brutally beaten up by anti-social elements over irrigation in the field. Both the injured persons were admitted to Community Health Center Bachhwara for treatment by the local people. Where the doctor referred her to Sadar Hospital Begusarai for better treatment after first aid. In this regard, the victim Manukiya Devi had complained about the matter by giving an application in Bachhwara police station, but the Bachhwara police did not take the matter seriously and no concrete steps were taken.
After which the victim has complained about the matter by giving an application to the Superintendent of Police Begusarai. The victim told in the application that we had complained about the matter by giving an application in Bachhwara police station, but Bachhwara police tried to hush up the case by registering a general section. Because the family of the accused is working as a watchman in Bachhwara police station. All these people also do illegal liquor business and have become synonymous with terror in the area by showing weapons on social media. The victim said that the accused are threatening that what if I file a case in Bachhwara police station, I will get the matter hushed up by doing two or four dates. And I will kill all the people and make the dead body disappear as well.
Because my family members are working as watchmen in Bachhwara police station. I will close the case by converting the murder into a missing person case. He said that all these people are of criminal nature and their courage is so high that we Dalit families are living in the shadow of fear. And we are forced to leave the village with our family. After living in the village, anything can happen to us at any time. SHO Amit Kumar Kant said that the matter is being investigated and after investigation, legal action will be taken against the guilty person. Till the time of sending the news, no action has been taken against any unruly person.

A new mood in 18th Lok Sabha; Prasad dalit face for dy speaker

Shifts in power dynamics and strategic moves shape the debate in Parliament’s latest session
Anita Katyal
The mood in the Treasury and Opposition benches during the inaugural session of the 18th Lok Sabha clearly reflected the change in the composition of the Lower House. Having been at the receiving end of a numerically strong ruling dispensation for the last 10 years, belligerent Opposition parties drew confidence from their improved bench strength, making it clear they could not be pushed around anymore. This was evident from newly-appointed Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi’s fiery speech during the debate on the motion of thanks to the President. While the Opposition was all fire and brimstone, the ruling party members appeared decidedly listless. The shouts of “Modi, Modi” on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s arrival in the Lok Sabha were comparatively weaker as compared to the earlier sessions. Similarly, Rahul Gandhi was allowed to have his say with minimum interruptions from the Treasury benches, a vast change from the past. And again the BJP members did not exactly leap up to back the Prime Minister when he intervened to rebut Rahul Gandhi. The BJP benches lost interest in the proceedings once their senior party leaders left the House allowing the Opposition a free run. Except for Lok Janshakti Party leader Chirag Paswan, BJP’s allies were not heard making overly supportive statements.
Well aware that its election campaign on the BJP’s proposal to amend the Constitution resonated with the electorate, especially the dalits, the Congress-led INDIA alliance is continuing to focus on this issue as seen in the first session of the 18th Lok Sabha. The Opposition has extended the “Samvidhan khatre mein hai” narrative to dalit assertion with plans to woo the Scheduled Castes to its fold. It is for this reason, the Congress and the Samajwadi Party gave pride of place in the Lok Sabha to its dalit members — K. Suresh and Awadhesh Prasad. While Mr Suresh was pitched as the combined Opposition’s candidate for the Lok Sabha Speaker’s post, it plans to field Mr Prasad for the deputy speaker’s position whenever the election is notified. Besides being a dalit, Mr Prasad defeated the BJP in Ayodhya, which is part of the Faizabad Lok Sabha constituency. The BJP is clearly rattled by the Opposition’s ongoing focus on the Constitution. It was, therefore, no surprise that the President’s address and Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s replies to the debate in Parliament dwelt at length on how the Congress had undermined the Constitution during Emergency.
Jharkhand Mukti Morcha leader Hemant Soren’s decision to reclaim the chief minister’s post from party colleague Champai Soren on his release from jail was not totally unexpected though everyone in the state was surprised at the hectic pace these developments unfolded. A section in JMM maintained it was necessary that Hemant Soren take charge again before the forthcoming Assembly polls as he has the stature and profile to expand the party’s base especially since the Lok Sabha election showed that the party was confined to the tribal belt. The JMM emerged victorious in Dumka, Rajmahal and Singhbhum — all reserved seats. But that’s the charitable explanation. The other reason given is that had Champai Soren continued as chief minister, it would be impossible to dislodge him if the JMM does well in the assembly polls as the party’s victory would be credited to him. All eyes are on Champai Soren now. Will he accept this decision quietly or create problems for the JMM?
With several Rajya Sabha seats falling vacant, the Congress Party’s communications department is abuzz with excitement as word has got around that one person from the department is likely to be rewarded with a berth in the Upper House. National spokesperson Pawan Khera and his colleague Supriya Shrinate are said to be in the race. While a disappointed Mr Khera had, in the past remarked there was perhaps something lacking in his “tapasya” that he filed to make the cut, Supriya is said to be a strong contender as social media campaigns she handled during the elections made a big impact and went a long way in lifting the Congress profile. Since it is well known that Mr Khera and Supriya are not exactly best friends, there are others like Karnataka leader L. Hanumanthaiah who is hoping the rivalry between Mr Khera and Supriya will work to his advantage.
Though the Wayanad by-election is yet to be notified, the Congress has already announced that Priyanka Gandhi Vadra would be fielded in the Lok Sabha constituency vacated by Rahul Gandhi. This move has put the other political parties in a fix. The Left Front, the Congress Party’s chief political opponent in Kerala, has to decide if it should nominate a strong candidate or opt for a token fight. The CPI put up its senior leader Annie Raja against Rahul Gandhi in the recent Lok Sabha election, ensuring that the Left party and Congress were the chief players in the field with no place for the BJP. It is being suggested that a woman candidate be named to take on Priyanka but this proposal has met with internal resistance as women feel they are not viewed as serious candidates and are fielded in constituencies where the party does not expect to win.

Eyeing Dalit votes, Congress to hold conferences, membership drives across U.P.

Congress party’s renewed push among the State’s sizeable Dalit community follows the party’s impressive Lok Sabha performance in Uttar Pradesh
MAYANK KUMAR
The Congress party is attempting to reach out to the numerically significant Dalit voters through district level Dalit chaupals and divisional level conferences to talk about their issues by further pushing its ‘Save the Constitution’ campaign.
The outreach, which was planned in a party meeting held this week, will include membership drives among Dalits across all 403 Assembly seats. Congress leaders added that the ‘Save the Constitution’ campaign helped the grand old party to make sizeable gains among the social group in the Lok Sabha election. The party leadership added that further strengthening the Dalit support will improve its prospects amid the Bahujan Samaj Party’s (BSP) eroding support in Uttar Pradesh.
“We have planned of organising district level Dalit chaupals and divisional level conferences over issues concerning the community. The divisional level conferences are planned in Gorakhpur (Eastern U.P.), and three other places in eastern, central and western U.P. in the initial phase. The whole programme is planned under the vision of the Scheduled Caste department of the party,” Anil Yadav, U.P. Congress General Secretary, told The Hindu.
He added, “We will also undertake special membership drive among the community and take initiatives across all the 403 Assembly seats in U.P.”
Congress party’s renewed push among the Dalit community will follow up after its recent impressive Lok Sabha performance in U.P. where it won six seats out of 17 contested under the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance bloc. This was the party’s best performance since the 2009 Lok Sabha election. The BSP received only 9.39% of the votes in 2024 Lok Sabha election; this was the Dalit centric party’s poorest showing since the 1991 U.P. Legislative Assembly election. The Dalit community constitutes roughly 21% of the State’s population.
Many within the Congress believe Dalits, who traditionally voted for the grand old party, may return to party’s fold if dedicated attempts are made. The party lost this base of voters with the rise of BSP in U.P.’s political landscape. “Traditionally Dalit community has been our core support base. We are hopeful that our outreach will consolidate the goodwill within the community,” Mr. Yadav added.

The hit job was over in 5 minutes

Chennai: The final five minutes of the 52-year-old Armstrong vanished in a jiffy, close to his under-construction house deep inside a congested residential neighbourhood of Venugopal Swamy Koil Street in Perambur at 7pm on Friday.
The assailants, three of them dressed as food delivery agents, looked their part. They were already stationed at the spot with a backpack, pretending to look into Google maps on their phone. Three others, in pant and shirt, managed to go near Armstrong, calling him ‘Anna’. As Armstrong turned around to engage with the strangers, the men who posed as food delivery agents pulled out machetes from their bags and began raining blows on the Dalit leader. Soon, the trio joined them.
Eyewitnesses say the first hack came from behind and landed on his left cheek. Before Armstrong could turn, the second one fell on his left ankle, the idea being immobilising him and preventing him from running away.
They then shifted their focus on driving away the three supporters of Armstrong his brother Veeramani, driver Abdul Gani and a friend Balaji by attacking them on their head, shoulders and hands.
They pushed the trio into a 10-ft pit dug up at the construction site and continued attacking Armstrong on his back and right hand, when he tried to shield himself. They left him only when he fell motionless, said one of the supporters, who was among the first to rush in to help him on hearing the commotion. The assailants, about half a dozen to nine of them, then made good their escape on three bikes which were already kept on.
The ease with which they came into the narrow congested residential neighbourhood and fled indicated that they had done a recce, say police.
The neighbours kept the windows and doors closed as there was usually noise coming from the site where the concrete mixture was operated daily. The labourers at the construction site would also leave by 6.30pm.
Sources said Armstrong had kept his pistol inside the car, parked a few metres from the construction site.
Armstrong, who lived in an apartment complex on K H Road, Ayanavaram, had been visiting the site around 3.30pm for the past one week and spent at least four hours playing carrom and meeting his supporters at his office, which is located on the street corner. One of the accused, Thirumala, an auto driver, noticed this routine of Armstrong and alerted the assailants. The gang also carried country-made bombs as plan B, police said.

Carrying placards with such slogans written on them, hundreds of people from the Dalit and Adivasi community of Barabani police station area gathered in front of Asansol Rabindra Bhavan on Thursday and demonstrated.
Asansol.I am an Adivasi-I am a Dalit-Police arrest me, implicating Dalits and Adivasis in false cases and protecting the coal mafia will not work, the Dalit community of Barabani is fighting and will fight against the terror of coal and sand. Carrying placards with such slogans written on them, hundreds of people from the Dalit and Adivasi community of Barabani police station area gathered in front of Asansol Rabindra Bhavan on Thursday and demonstrated. From here, they took out a rally and gathered in front of the Police Commissioner’s office and remained adamant on their demand to surrender. The in-charge of Asansol South police station arrived with a heavy police force and tried to convince the agitators for a long time. The agitators agreed to his words and after taking out a rally near the Police Commissioner’s office, they again came back and gathered in front of Rabindra Bhavan. Five delegations held a meeting with Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central) Dhruv Das and put forth their problems. Bapi Bauri, a member of Puchhra Gram Panchayat and Trinamool leader who was leading the agitation, said that the Deputy Commissioner of Police has assured that no one will be arrested without reason. Whatever the problem is, give a written memorandum of it, the problem will be solved. After this assurance, the agitators returned. This agitation has brought Barabani Police Station In-charge Manoranjan Mandal under the scanner.
It is worth noting that for the last one week, there has been a lot of tension between the police and the Dalit and backward class people in the Barabani police station area. Bapi Bauri said that in Barabani, the police station in-charge keeps threatening people belonging to SC and ST and arresting them without any reason. A few days ago, a youth named Gautam Bauri was called to the police station and arrested. Just a few hours before his arrest, he had gone to the police station to mediate in a dispute between his neighbours. Bapi Bauri said that school children commute on the roads where sand and coal are being transported. These roads are being ruined by the movement of heavy vehicles. Accidents are also happening due to this. Traffic of heavy vehicles was opposed here. After this, the station in-charge arrived with the police and picked up five boys and brought them to the police station and beat them badly. Local Panchayat members had gone to the police station to talk but the station in-charge refused to listen to anything and said that he would file a case against 150 to 200 people and put them in jail. Angry with this statement of the station in-charge, people have come to the Police Commissioner to surrender themselves.
What is the whole matter
On 27 June, the police of Barabani police station called Gautam Bauri of Khodabar area of ????their area to the police station and arrested him. On 26 June, he had come to the police station to mediate in a dispute between a husband and wife living in the neighbourhood. Later he was released on bail. This incident caused a lot of resentment among the people of Bauri community. On the night of 28 June, hundreds of people from Dalit and Adivasi community protested in front of Barabani police station. They alleged that why is the police implicating Dalits in false cases? The station in-charge is doing such things at the behest of a strongman leader of the area. After a long meeting of police officers with the agitators in the police station, the matter calmed down.
On the complaint of Sub Inspector Shobhan Saha of Barabani police station regarding this 28 June agitation, an FIR was registered naming 14 leaders of Bauri community and making 250 other men and women accused. In which sections 143/147/148/149/153A/353 of BNS have been imposed in case number 96/24. On Wednesday night, the police picked up Kajal Bauri, Rajiv Bauri, Sanjay Gorai, Bapi Dhibar and Krishna Bauri and brought them to the police station. As soon as they got the information, hundreds of men and women reached Barabani police station to get arrested. The ruckus continued for a long time. Due to heavy rain, they all returned at 11 pm and started marching towards the Police Commissioner’s office in the morning. Meanwhile, the police released all the arrested persons from the police station itself on bail bond.
The police have been accused of implicating people in false cases.
During the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, there was a movement of opposition parties across the state on the issue of Sandeshkhali. On February 25, a demonstration was held by the BJP on this issue in Gaurandi area of ????Barabani police station area. During this, the effigy of the Chief Minister was burnt. After the agitation ended, a case was registered under non-bailable sections on the complaint of the police sub-inspector Amit Kar of the police station, naming BJP district secretary Abhijit Rai, BJYM district president Babon Mandal, BJYM Barabani Mandal 1 president Khokhan Maharaj, along with giving the numbers of seven vehicles and making their owners and others accused. On the very next day, Asansol South MLA Agnimitra Pal sat on a dharna at Bhagat Singh Mor, accusing the police of Barabani police station of implicating BJP leaders in a false case.
Security agencies are also at risk due to illegal coal trade
There are many coal mines of ECL in Barabani police station area. Incidents of coal theft are common here, whose complaints are also regularly made in the police station. Attacks on security personnel during mine raids are also common here. A few days ago, CISF and ECL security team had caught nine people during a mine raid. Coal thieves had attacked the security team. They freed their comrades from their clutches and vandalized the security officer’s car. The security officer and his team somehow managed to escape from there saving their lives.
In terms of statistics, Barabani is the most peaceful police station
In six months, only 96 FIRs have been registered in Barabani police station area. From this point of view, this police station area is quite peaceful. 314 FIRs have been registered in the nearby Asansol North police station, 243 FIRs in Asansol South police station, 304 FIRs in Jamuria police station and 116 FIRs in Salanpur police station. That means, on an average, only 15 cases are registered here in a month. Despite this, they are constantly being accused of implicating people in false cases.
