Ashok alleges Congress govt. misused money meant for SC/STs, demands Siddaramaiah’s resignation
Published - July 21, 2024 09:21 pm IST - Shivamogga
Shivamogga
At a press conference in Hassan, after visiting rain-hit areas of Sakleshpur, Mr. Ashok alleged that Mr. Siddaramaiah got the land which belonged to a Scheduled Caste family transferred to his family illegally in Mysuru. He spent the money meant for SCP and TSP to implement the guarantee schemes. Besides that, the money allocated for the development of the Scheduled Tribes through the Maharshi Valmiki ST Development Corporation had been misused.
Regarding the devastation caused by heavy rain, Mr. Ashok said the Congress government had not responded to the problems of people hit by rain. During the BJP rule, the government immediately released ₹10,000 to the families affected and granted ₹10 lakh to build new houses. However, the present government was giving only ₹1.2 lakh even if a house was damaged completely. He also alleged that the Ministers in-charge of districts had not visited the rain-hit areas.
BJP MLA Cement Manju, district BJP president Siddesh Nagendra, and others were present at the press conference.
Policemen beat a Dalit youth naked in the police post, video goes viral
After the youth regained consciousness, they made him massage their feet too, SP suspends Dhakia police post in-charge and two constables
Policemen beat a Dalit youth naked in the police post, video goes viral
Let us tell you that on Saturday, Rishipal Jatav, a resident of Bhanwarki Jadid village of Dhakia police post area of ??Kotwali Shahbad, had a dispute with his wife. On the complaint of his wife, constables Jaidev and Amit Kumar posted at Dhakia police post picked him up from his house at around 5 pm on Saturday evening. The constables brutally beat the Dalit youth at the Dhakia post. The Dalit youth became unconscious due to the beating. The brutality of the constables did not stop here. After the youth regained consciousness, they also made him massage their feet. In the morning, the video of the beating marks on the body went viral, which caused a stir in the police department. All the organizations got angry and reached the office of the Circle Officer with the victim. Where they also had a heated argument with the Circle Officer. Seeing the matter getting worse, the police registered a case against both the constables, along with this the Inspector has recommended their suspension.
Case registered against the constables
After the incident, the victim reached home and told his ordeal to his family. Meanwhile, someone made a video of him and made it viral. In which injury marks were visible on his body. After the video went viral, the organizations became active. On Monday morning, former Minister of State and BSP leader Surendra Sagar, President of Veer Bhagat Singh Yuva Morcha Rajat Kumar, District Incharge of Bhim Army Sunil Kumar, Ved Prakash Sagar associated with BJP Scheduled Caste Front, along with workers of all the organizations reached the office of the Circle Officer with the victim. They talked about registering a case against the accused constables. Seeing the situation deteriorating, the police started taking action against the constables. At the same time, Veer Bhagat Singh Yuva Morcha president Rajat Kumar had a heated argument with the area officer over taking the statement of the victim in private in the office.
The constables crossed the limits of brutality
The constables took the victim away on the complaint of his wife. It is alleged that both the constables drank alcohol at around 1 o’clock on Saturday night. After this, they asked him about his caste, then stripped him naked and started beating him with sticks. Not only this, the constables beat him so much using casteist words that he fainted.
Casteist slogans like ‘Dalit-Cha$%er Quit India’, ‘Brahmin-Bania Zindabad’ found written on JNU walls, what did the students say?

In a conversation with ‘The Mooknayak’, Biswajit Minji, associated with BAPSA, says, “Such incidents show that the success of a Dalit-Bahujan movement that has started in so many years is a threat to the dominance of the so-called upper caste and upper caste people. This is the reason why we see anti-Dalit, Bahujan and tribal things every day.”
Saumya Raj
New Delhi. Objectionable casteist and communal slogans have been found written on the walls of Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU). In fact, on Saturday, July 20, casteist abuses and communal slogans like ‘Cha$%er Quit India’, ‘Dalit Quit India’, ‘Brahmin-Bania Zindabad’ and ‘Hindu-RSS Zindabad’ were found written on the walls of Kaveri hostel in the JNU campus. There is a lot of anger among the students of the university about this. Students expressed their strong protest against this in the university campus and the student union also took out a march on Saturday evening.
When we reached Kaveri Hostel to gather more information on this matter, we found the walls painted. Hostel students told us that after the pictures of this went viral on social media, the university administration painted them on Saturday itself.
“The slogans were erased from the wall, but how will you remove it from the minds of such people?”
Speaking to ‘The Mooknayak’, JNU NSUI General Secretary Kunal Kumar said that as soon as we reported this incident, the administration got the wall painted. He says, “This is a very big incident. It should not be seen as an isolated incident. After the coming of the current government of the country, people with such Manuvadi and Brahminist thinking have got protection. The slogans were erased from the wall, but how will you remove it from the minds of such people?”
“The same forces that are in power in the country are entrenched in the JNU campus”
While talking to us about this matter, JNUSU President Dhananjay says, “The JNU Students’ Union strongly condemns the incident that happened in Kaveri Hostel and stands completely against it. The same forces that are in power in the country are entrenched in the JNU campus. These forces are constantly running their agenda against Dalits, Adivasis, Bahujans, Muslims and women and they want the campus to be closed for all of them in some way. They want that all the students should not sit together and study in the campus. But we all have built JNU together and JNU will always be a place of equality and parity. For this, we will keep fighting every such force and we know how to fight them very well.” “The administration should take strict action against casteist people”
Regarding this incident, Chetan, who lives in Kaveri hostel, tells us, “We are very disturbed by the recent incidents in the hostel, where casteist abuses were hurled against the Dalit Bahujan community, as well as slogans like ‘Brahmin Baniya Zindabad’ and ‘RSS Zindabad’. These slogans clearly expose the Brahminical and Manuvadi nature of the RSS and its supporters in our university. And also show the hatred they have for a particular community.” He further adds, “At such a time, it is important that the administration, especially the warden of Kaveri hostel, take immediate and strict action against hate-mongers and casteist people.”
“Such incidents show that the success of a Dalit-Bahujan movement that has started in so many years is a threat to the dominance of the so-called upper caste and upper caste people. This is the reason why we see anti-Dalit, Bahujan and tribal things every day.” Biswajit Minji, Bapsa
Speaking to us, Abul Kalam, a member of the ‘Kaveri Hostel’ committee, said, “We condemn such acts. Students from different parts of the country and from different religions and communities come to study in the university. Such incidents spoil the campus environment and disturb social harmony.”
Hostel Senior Warden issued notice

Regarding this matter, the Senior Warden of Kaveri Hostel has issued a notice and told the students, “Hostel residents or anyone who has any information about the persons responsible for this act are requested to inform the hostel administration on the hostel email address.” In this notice, the warden has further warned about installing CCTV in the hostel. And at the same time, the hostel students have been advised to be vigilant. “University students need to be sensitized”
Speaking to ‘The Mooknayak’ about this, Swati, who lives in Sabarmati hostel, says, “This is not the first such incident in the campus. Recently, the poster released by ABVP for Parshuram Jayanti read – ‘We the Brahmins of JNU’… From this you can guess how the students are being divided in the campus. After this incident, there is talk of installing CCTV cameras in the hostels, but what will installing cameras do? This will not make any difference in the mentality of the students. I think the university students need to be sensitized.”
Many such cases have come to the fore in the campus before this
Many such cases of writing objectionable comments and slogans on the walls in the JNU campus have come to the fore before this. Earlier, last year, some objectionable slogans were also found written on the wall of the School of International Studies. After its pictures went viral on social media, it made headlines in the media at the national level and JNU Vice Chancellor Shantishree Dhulipudi Pandit also gave a statement in the media that those who commit such acts will not be spared. After this, a committee was formed to investigate the incidents of repeated ‘anti-national’ slogans in the JNU campus. However, information about what the committee has done so far regarding these incidents has not been made public.
Let us tell you that earlier at the time of admission in JNU, many workshops were organized to sensitize all the students and staff, which have almost stopped now. Now such programs have become a mere formality.
These days, it has become very common for students to make anti-Dalit and communal comments against Dalits, Bahujans, Adivasis and a particular community in their conversations even in public places in the university campus and to use ‘caste-indicating abuses’ in their conversations. Students associated with BAPSA told ‘The Mooknayak’ that whenever they paste posters related to the activities of their organization in the JNU campus, many times obscene abuses and casteist comments are written on them and the posters are torn. Such incidents are also somewhere the result of the same conservative mentality due to which students are unable to get out even after reaching here.
In the recent years, incidents of raising slogans, pasting posters or writing objectionable things on the walls targeting a ‘particular community’ in the university campus have increased rapidly. But no concrete action has been taken by the university administration on any such incident. It is really worrying that such incidents are constantly coming to the fore in the country’s most progressive and prestigious university and the university administration remains a silent spectator.

UP: Communal tension spreads in Bahraich after alleged molestation of Dalit girl

The Dalit girl alleged that the youth made objectionable gestures and pulled her dupatta. However, the youth claimed that his motorcycle accidentally touched the girl when he was passing by.
Bahraich, Uttar Pradesh – Communal tension spread in an area of ??Bahraich district on Monday after an incident of alleged molestation of a Dalit girl and a youth from another community. The clash escalated when the accused and his accomplices attacked the girl’s family and relatives, police said.
The authorities have arrested six people, including the youth accused of molestation. A case has been registered against nine named and other unidentified persons.
A large number of police force has been deployed in the area to maintain law and order. Five people have been injured in the tussle and their condition is stable. Some are undergoing treatment at the district hospital.
Superintendent of Police (SP) Vrinda Shukla said the incident started when the Dalit girl slapped the son of a meat seller. She alleged that he made objectionable gestures and pulled her dupatta. However, the youth claimed that his motorcycle accidentally touched the girl while he was passing by.
After the incident, the girl called her brother, who allegedly hit the youth on the head with an iron rod, injuring him. The dispute led to a major clash between the two groups, which involved members of both communities, including meat vendors.
The girl suffered minor injuries while trying to intervene and was treated before being sent home.
The police have registered a case against nine named persons and several unidentified persons for sexual harassment, rioting and causing hurt, as well as under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.
The remaining accused are currently absconding. The authorities are keeping a close watch on the situation to prevent further deterioration.

An armed gang allegedly severed the left hand of Anish Kumar, belonging to a Dalit community, sitting outside his house on Siddappaji Temple Road in Malagalu, Kanakapura town, in south Karnataka. The attack was the outcome of an argument. Several others who came to his rescue were also allegedly assaulted. The victims were rushed to a hospital.
The exchange of words aggravated into a heated argument, which ended with the accused leaving the place. But, the accused returned after two hours armed with lethal weapons and attacked the youths.
Seven persons, including three women, sustained severe injuries in the attack and are undergoing treatment in a hospital, said the police.
The police deployed additional forces to prevent any further violence. Senior police officials visited the hospital and spoke to the victims.
Based on a complaint, the police registered a case against the accused, identified as Harsha and six others, charging them under Sections 118 (voluntarily causing hurt or grievous hurt by dangerous weapons, or means), 198 (unlawful assembly), 329 (criminal trespass), 351 (whoever threatens another by any means, with any injury to his person, reputation or property, or to the person or reputation of any one in whom that person is interested, with intent to cause alarm to that person) and 76 (assault or use of criminal force on woman with intent to disrobe) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and also under the SC & ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Amendment Act.
Earlier on July 17, a similar attack was reported in Thamasandra Circle, Kasaba hobli, Kanakapura wherein an armed group allegedly attacked some members of the Dalit community following a row during a house-warning ceremony.
The accused were miffed about the community members putting up a pandal to arrange food for guests. The accused allegedly went to the residential locality with weapons and attacked Dalits. As a result, 13 persons, including six women, were injured. The Kanakapura Rural police registered a case under Atrocities Act and also under various sections of the BNS.

The government of Karnataka has decided to withdraw its earlier order cancelling the financial assistance to Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe students to pursue Ph.D in foreign universities under the Prabuddha scheme.
Minister of Social Welfare Dr. H.C. Mahadevappa posted on Facebook and X: “There has been some confusion regarding SC/ST students pursuing Ph.D in foreign universities under Prabuddha scheme and the Government will continue this scheme as before.”
Madhya Pradesh Scheduled Caste Welfare Minister threatens to quit after losing Forest portfolio
Chouhan said his wife Anita Singh Chouhan would also quit as Ratlam MP if BJP organisational leaders failed to respond "positively" to his concerns.
The Forest and Environment Ministry held by Nagar was allocated to Rawat on Sunday.
"My voice was not heard. I will first talk to organisational leaders and decide the next step. I will decide in a day or two after talking to the party organisation. If I feel I should not stay on the post, I will resign along with my wife Anita," Chouhan, a prominent tribal leader, told PTI over the phone.
He said tribals form 23 per cent of the population in Madhya Pradesh.
"This is the first time tribals have been given leadership, but now the Forest Department, which is closely associated with tribals, has been taken away and given to a leader from Congress. I don't think this is beneficial for me or the party workers," Chouhan said.
The minister claimed he had discussed the issue with party leaders on Sunday night and plans to continue these discussions.
"If they want, I will talk to them. No problem if they don't want to," Chouhan added.
Ramniwas Rawat, a former Congress MLA and a six-time legislator from Vijaypur in Sheopur district joined the BJP during the Lok Sabha poll campaign on April 30.
Days after his induction as a Cabinet minister on July 8, a notification was issued on Sunday stating he had been allocated the forest and environment portfolio.
