Three alliances of Jat-Dalit in Haryana

It seems that everyone’s eyes are on Dalit votes in Haryana assembly elections. After Jats, Dalits form the second largest population in the state. According to an estimate, about 21 percent of the population is Dalit. The picture that is visible so far is that Congress has managed the Dalit equation.
In the Lok Sabha elections, Dalit voters were seen to be inclined towards it. In the uproar to save the Constitution and reservation, Congress and its allies got Dalit votes across the country. Ever since BJP has started non-Jat politics in Haryana, Congress has managed the equation of Dalits with Jats. According to this equation, Bhupendra Singh Hooda has been made the supreme leader of the party and along with him Dalit leader Chaudhary Udaybhan has been made the state president. Congress is hoping that its equation with Jats, Dalits and Muslims will become 50 percent of the votes.
On the other hand, BJP, under non-Jat politics, has made backward caste Nayab Singh Saini the Chief Minister and has created an equation of Punjabi through Manohar Lal Khattar, Gurjar through Krishan Pal Singh Gurjar and Yadav through Rao Indrajit Singh with the backward castes. But this does not create an equation of electoral victory unless the Dalit vote is divided. This work is being done by two regional parties of the state. BJP can also get this work done with their help.
Anyway, Om Prakash Chautala’s party Indian National Lok Dal has formed an alliance with Mayawati’s party BSP, while Chautala’s grandson and Jannayak Janata Party leader Dushyant Chautala has formed an alliance with Chandrashekhar Azad’s Azad Samaj Party. Both Mayawati and Chandrashekhar Azad are doing politics of the legacy of Baba Saheb Bhimrao Ambedkar and Kanshiram. Both these alliances will fight the elections with the equation of Jat and Dalit. If they divide any votes, it will harm the Congress.

Telangana: Dalits prevented from entering Durga Matha temple in Siddipet

After the counselling, village elders in Siddipet assured the Dalit families they would make arrangements to celebrate Bonalu festival as usual.
Hyderabad: Dalits were prevented by upper caste people from entering the newly constructed Durga Matha temple in Siddipet district. After filing a complaint with the police, ‘counselling’ was given to both communities to sort out the issue.
This incident took place at Venkatapuram, a suburb of Markuk Mandal, Siddipet district. On the occasion of the Bonalu festival, Dalits had gone to the temple to pray for village devotees. However, those belonging to the upper caste prevented them from entering its premises.
Following an altercation, the Dalit community members lodged a complaint with the police and a case was registered against some people for caste discrimination. The Siddipet police stated that it was an unfortunate incident to prevent people from entering the temple.
The Siddipet police said that the case is being investigated. Officials said that they visited the village along with police personnel and counselled both sections. However, this is not the first time that Dalits have been prevented from entering a temple, as such instances routinely happen from time to time.
After the counselling, village elders in Siddipet assured the Dalit families they would make arrangements to celebrate Bonalu festival as usual.
Earlier this year, the opposition BRS alleged that deputy chief minister and Congress MLA M Bhatti Vikramarka faced discrimination at the Yadagiri Laxmi Narasimhaswamy temple after he was made to sit on the ground while in the presence of chief minister A Revanth Reddy and other cabinet colleagues.

INLD, JJP bank on Kanshi Ram’s legacy, tie up with Dalit parties

Chandigarh, The Devi Lal clan, represented by regional parties INLD and JJP, are banking on the legacy of Dalit icon Kanshi Ram to stay relevant in Haryana politics after the October 1 Assembly elections.
Author Pradeep Sharma
To pose a challenge to the BJP and the Congress, both regional parties have entered into alliances with parties professing faith in Kanshi Ram’s ideology. While the INLD has entered into an alliance with the BSP, the JJP has tied up with the Azad Samaj Party-Kanshi Ram (ASP-KR).
Observers see both alliances as part of the Jat-Dalit social engineering formula playing out in Haryana politics in the run-up to the elections. With Jats comprising over 22 per cent votes and the Dalits accounting for over 20 per cent votes, the success of the social engineering formula is being keenly watch by political observers.
Both INLD and JJP, which claim to inherit the legacy of former Deputy Prime Minister Devi Lal, trace their vote bank to the rural peasantry, mostly comprising Jats. The BSP and the ASP-KR, on the other hand, claim their support base among the Dalits and other downtrodden sections of society. The ASP-KR, led by MP Chandrasekhar Azad “Ravan”, is testing political waters in Haryana for the first time.
“In view of their dismal performances in the recent Lok Sabha elections, it is a survival issue for the INLD and the JJP in the Assembly elections. Their alliances with the BSP and the ASP-KR seem to be a desperate bid to obtain a respectable vote share in the Assembly elections to remain relevant in Haryana politics,” says Kushal Pal, a political analyst.
Observers believe that the Jat-Dalit electoral combination is ‘formidable’, which can tilt the balance in the favour of any political party. In fact, the consolidation of the Jat and Dalit voters in the favour of the Congress is considered to be the main reason for the party winning five seats in the recent Lok Sabha elections.
In the 2024 Lok Sabha poll, the INLD with just 1.84 per cent vote share and the JJP with 0.87 per cent votes had registered their worst-ever electoral performances. In view of their dismal performances, there was an exodus of senior party leaders, especially from the JJP, to other parties. This was in sharp contrast to the JJP’s performance in the 2019 Assembly poll when it had emerged the kingmaker against the backdrop of a hung Assembly. With over 15 per cent vote share and 10 seats, the JJP stitched together an alliance with the BJP, which lasted for about four-and-a-half years till March this year.

Shocker! Dalit Woman & Grandson Brutally Beaten By GRP Officers In Madhya Pradesh’s Katni; ‘CM Sahab…’ Kamal Nath, Jitu Patwari React To Viral Video

The people shown in the video are related to a known criminal named Deepak Banshkar, with 19 cases registered against him at Katni GRP Police Station.
Katni (Madhya Pradesh): A shocking video has surfaced from Katni, Madhya Pradesh, showing an old lady with her grandson being beaten brutally by police officers, on Wednesday.
In the viral video, GRP Station In-charge Aruna Bahane, along with her staff, is seen mercilessly beating a Gurjar woman and her grandson.
The video shows Bahane dragging an elderly woman, Kusum Banshkar, and her grandson, Deepraj Banshkar, by their hair and beating them non stop. When she grew tired, four other police officers stepped in and continued the assault, using sticks to hit both the elderly woman and her grandson.
According to information, after the video went viral, Jabalpur SP Shimla Prasad tweeted that the images from the video are from October 2023. The people shown in the video are related to a known criminal named Deepak Banshkar, with 19 cases registered against him at Katni GRP Police Station.
Deepak has been under police watch since 2017 and had a bounty of INR 10,000 on his head for a theft case. He was ordered to be exiled from Katni in April 2024, and his gang’s history sheet has been opened.
In response to the public outrage, Jabalpur Railway SP has immediately attached the GRP Station In-charge, Aruna Bahane, to the police line and ordered an investigation, assigning the case to the Deputy Superintendent of Railway Police.
Political leaders have reacted strongly to the video. Congress State President Jitu Patwari called Madhya Pradesh a “Jungle Raj,” and former Chief Minister Kamal Nath stated that the lives of Dalits are unsafe in the state. The Congress party is preparing to meet with the Governor regarding the incident.

Dalai Lama Returns to India After Successful Surgery in the US
The Dalai Lama returned to northern India on Wednesday after a successful knee surgery in the United States.
After the surgery, Dr. David Mayman, chief of the adult reconstruction and joint replacement service at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York, said the Dalai Lama was recovering well and that his condition was expected to continue to improve over the next six months to a year.
Meanwhile, the Dalai Lama's physicians, Dr. Tsetan D Sadutshang and Dr. Tsewang Tamdin, said last month that his surgical incision had completely healed without complications.
On Wednesday, hundreds of the spiritual leader's followers cheered for the Dalai Lama at the airport and his residence. The colorful celebration—which included drums, traditional dances, and Tibetan and Buddhist flags—took place in Dharamshala, a hillside town in northern India, that has been the headquarters of the Tibetan government-in-exile since fleeing Tibet after a failed uprising against Chinese rule in 1959. China has controlled Tibet since the early 1950s.

The Dalai Lama formally relinquished his political responsibilities in 2011 and gave them to the Tibetan community's elected leadership. However, he has remained the spiritual leader of the community, which is predominantly Buddhist.
In recent years, Beijing has stepped up its campaign of cultural assimilation targeting Tibetans, Turkic Muslim Uyghurs in the Xinjiang region and other minority groups. There are more than 100,000 Tibetan refugees in India, Nepal and Bhutan, according to Tibetan organizations, but many have also moved to countries like the United States, Canada, Germany and Switzerland.
While the Dalai Lama was in New York, senior U.S. officials met with him, which was reportedly protested by China.
On August 21, Uzra Zeya, under secretary of state for civilian security, democracy, and human rights and special coordinator for Tibetan issues, along with Kelly Razzouk, special assistant to the president and national security council senior director for democracy and human rights, traveled to New York City for an audience with the Dalai Lama.
