You look like a criminal, are you a chama@%$?’: Angry students over casteist remarks demand FIR against principal!

New Delhi: A case of mental harassment and casteist remarks by the principal of Shaheed Bhagat Singh College, Delhi University on the basis of suspicion has come to light. Angry students and student organizations have been protesting over the matter for the past several days and demanding FIR against the principal.
When the student organization of Delhi University came to know about the incident, they started protesting for justice for the victimized Dalit student. Students started protesting for the first time in Shaheed Bhagat Singh College on 18 November. Since then, students are continuously protesting. On Friday also, they protested in front of Malviya Nagar police station and demanded justice.
Anjali, Secretary of AISA, Delhi University, alleged that the principal has maintained an atmosphere of fear among the students in the college.
She told that, last month, around 24th October, obscene videos were sent from the phones of some students on a WhatsApp group of Shaheed Bhagat Singh College class. Something similar had happened in the previous semester as well. On the second such incident, some students wrote a letter to the teachers demanding that the matter be investigated.
After this, on the basis of suspicion, the college administration first questioned two students and asked them to fill and sign a form on the basis of which it was believed that the concerned student had committed this mistake, in which he was accepting the mistake and promising that such a mistake would not be repeated in the future. However, at first the students refused to sign the form saying that when they had not sent all those things in the WhatsApp group, then why should they believe that they had done it. However, after a lot of pressure, the students signed the form.
When the students were asked how obscene videos came from their numbers in the class’s WhatsApp group, the concerned students said that their WhatsApp had been hacked. The students said that they knew very well that if they did this intentionally, strict legal action could be taken against them, then how could they do this.
In the investigation that went on for a few more days, about 10-12 students out of the total students of the class were suspected in connection with this incident. And without consent, the mobile phones of all the students were confiscated, even though everyone’s phone contains many of their private and personal information, conversations and photos.
Among the 12 people whose phones were confiscated, one student was Sumit Chauhan. However, this incident did not happen from his phone number. But he was also under suspicion. During the investigation, the college administration found that Sumit had two WhatsApps in his phone.
Anjali alleges that, “On the basis of just two WhatsApp accounts, the investigators themselves established that Sumit has two WhatsApp accounts, this must be some new technology. Maybe this must have hacked the WhatsApp accounts.”
After this, all the teachers started pressuring Sumit to fill the same form and sign it. So that Sumit accepts that he has done all this.
However, Sumit flatly refused. He said that when he has not done it, how can he accept that he has done it. After this, he started being publicly humiliated by the teachers and college students. Due to which he started feeling mentally harassed.
After not accepting that he was behind the incident, Sumit was taken to the principal. It is alleged that there Principal Arun Kumar Atri told Sumit that- “You look like a criminal. Which caste do you belong to..? You are a Chamar..!!”
Anjali told that the principal used casteist words with Sumit. Since Sumit comes from the Dalit community. After that the principal slapped him 4-5 times and also asked the teachers for a stick to beat him.
Upset by this incident, Sumit came to Malviya Nagar police station to register an FIR against the principal. However, his complaint letter was taken but his FIR was not registered.
Anjali told The Mooknayak that, “A child comes from a marginalized society, so he was threatened in this way. He was also mentally tortured. We have been protesting continuously for 4-5 days. Our demand is that an FIR should be registered against the accused under the SC-ST Act. And the principal should be arrested. Because Sumit is still getting threatening calls.”
In an interview given to IANS in the case, Principal Arun Kumar Atri said that, “All these allegations are false, baseless and sponsored. We have a teacher here, Professor Rakesh Kumar, an investigation was going on against him for a fake certificate…”
In this case, National President of Azad Samaj Party (Kanshi Ram) and MP Chandrashekhar Azad has also expressed his reaction on social media platform X. Referring to the incident, he wrote, “We demand from National Scheduled Caste Commission, University Grants Commission, and Delhi University that Principal Arun Kumar Atri be dismissed with immediate effect and justice be ensured by conducting a fair investigation of this case. If this does not happen, we will not sit silent and will continue the protest.”

Kerala: Teacher made 6-year-old Dalit student clean the vomit of his sick student, said – you only…

Despite complaints given to the school principal and education department, no strict action was taken against the teacher, due to which the child’s family and Dalit rights advocates are angry. The child’s mother lodged a formal complaint at the local police station on Friday.

Idukki – A case of caste discrimination has come to light in St. Benedict’s LP School located in Sleevamala of Idukki district of Kerala, in which a six-year-old Dalit student was forced to clean the vomit of his fellow student. Despite … On November 13, Pranav Sijoy, a second-grade student, was angrily asked by his class teacher Maria Joseph to clean up the vomit of his sick classmate in front of the entire class, leaving the child traumatised.
According to the child’s mother, Priyanka Soman, when a child vomited in the class, the teacher first asked all the students to cover the mess with sand, then classes resumed. Later, the teacher asked Pranav to clean up the mess alone.
When Pranav said he wanted to study, the teacher angrily scolded him, pointed a finger at him and forced him to clean it up. Shivering and crying, Pranav did it while his classmates watched. Pranav’s friend Niket told the teacher that he would help Pranav, but the teacher refused, saying only Pranav would do the job.
Speaking to The Mooknayak, Priyanka said her son did not immediately tell her about the incident. “The next morning, Pranav started crying and refused to go to school, as he was afraid he would be scolded again. I thought it was probably due to some poor performance in class, so I explained to him and said that if he improved his studies, the teacher would not scold him. I did not know how much trauma my little child was going through.”
Priyanka came to know about the whole story only on November 20. During a chance meeting with Niket’s mother on a bus, the two talked about children’s health and the school environment. Niket’s mother mentioned the vomiting incident and told that Pranav was forced to clean it. Priyanka was shocked and upset to hear this, and immediately contacted the school principal.
Initially the principal was not aware of the incident, but asked to speak after finding out the matter. Later, the principal confirmed the incident and said that the teacher would be warned. When Priyanka asked if such a teacher would get just a warning for discriminating against a child, the principal said that this would be the maximum action the school management could take. Unsatisfied with the response, Priyanka filed a written complaint with the Assistant Education Officer (AEO). However, the AEO staff explained that since St Benedict’s is an aided school, they have limited authority to take action against the teacher.
Priyanka said the school management was indifferent to the gravity of the situation and the education department also did not give a satisfactory response. “The principal suggested only a warning, but this is outright caste discrimination. My child was humiliated in front of his classmates. How can such a teacher be allowed to remain in the class?”
Priyanka, who works as a data entry operator, and her husband, a mechanic by profession, are worried about the long-term effects of the incident on their child. “Now Pranav is scared to go to school. He is terrified and we are worried about how this will affect his confidence and future studies,” says Priyanka.
Determined to get justice for her son, Priyanka filed a formal complaint at the local police station on Friday. She vowed to pursue the matter so that no child faces such discriminatory behaviour again.
“This is a traumatic experience for a six-year-old child, the teacher had no right to force him into such humiliating work when the school has hired sweepers for such tasks. This is clearly negligence and casteism,” she says.
The incident has sparked anger among Dalit rights activists and parents. Many have criticised the education department for inaction. They say the school’s inaction reflects caste-based discrimination and negligence towards marginalised communities. They also say the matter should be properly investigated. If the teacher is found guilty, she should be sacked. But there has been no response from the management despite the complaint.
Dr Rehna Ravindran, anti-caste activist and assistant professor at Delhi University, says, “Many cases of caste violence against Dalit children in educational institutions run by minority groups (missionaries) in Kerala go unreported because there is no grievance redressal mechanism and fear of harassment by the management. This case is just the tip of the iceberg.” She further added, “This school is run by a Christian management, a so-called minority institution. There is no mechanism in the school to prevent caste violence by teachers against marginalised children.” The Mooknayak contacted the education department to get information on the incident but did not receive any response. Also, a message was sent to the school principal, Susamma Joseph, to know the management’s version and the action taken against the teacher. The story will be updated if there is a response from both sides.

If Rahul does not win the Maharashtra elections, will it prove to be a big setback in his 20-year career?

Maharashtra Assembly Election Results 2024: Rahul Gandhi had recently raised the issue of constitution and caste census in his public meetings during the Maharashtra assembly election campaign. On the basis of this issue, the condition of BJP in Maharashtra became bad during the Lok Sabha elections. Like Haryana, if BJP wins a big victory in this big state too, then questions can be raised on Rahul Gandhi’s politics.

- Will Rahul Gandhi’s strategy for Maharashtra elections be successful
- What was the strategy in Maharashtra in the Lok Sabha elections, how successful
- How can the results of Maharashtra elections decide someone’s political direction
New Delhi: The 288-member Maharashtra assembly elections will prove to be a big test for many people. One of them is Congress leader Rahul Gandhi. Rahul Gandhi recently raised the issue of constitution and caste census in his public meetings during the election campaign of Maharashtra. This was the same issue due to which BJP’s condition worsened in Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh in the Lok Sabha elections. This time also Rahul Gandhi has played the same game in Maharashtra. Rahul Gandhi had raised the same issue in Jharkhand as well. Let us know whether this issue can give Rahul an edge in elections again and again or it will prove to be a big setback in his 20-year career. Let us understand whether question marks will be raised on Rahul’s politics with the election results coming out?
What did Rahul say during the election campaign
Rahul Gandhi said in the election rally in Maharashtra, the Constitution talks about equality, one person-one vote, respect for all and for every religion, caste, state and language. The Constitution has the voice of Savitribai Phule and Mahatma Gandhi. But BJP and the Sangh are attacking the Constitution. Their attack is an attack on the voice of the country.
Rahul also raised the issue of caste census
Rahul also talked about caste census in his public meetings. In a public meeting, he said that if caste census is done, it will be known what kind of injustice is being done to Dalits, OBCs and Adivasis. Everyone will know how much power they have and what their role is. He also said that we will also break the wall of 50 percent reservation limit.
What is the mathematics of castes in Maharashtra
Send feedback
The population of Dalits in Maharashtra is about 12%. OBCs are about 38%, tribals are 9% and Marathas are about 28%. Rahul Gandhi is trying to woo these sections by talking about the constitution and reservation. Its effect was also seen in the Lok Sabha elections, when Dalits and OBCs were divided in Maharashtra and a large part went to the Maha Vikas Aghadi. Due to this, they got a big victory.
Why does Rahul challenge the Sangh in Nagpur
A few years ago, during the Bihar elections, Sangh chief Mohan Bhagwat made a statement on reservation, after which BJP suffered a lot. In the election rally of Maharashtra, Rahul Gandhi said, the Sangh will attack the Constitution secretly. It does not dare to attack directly from the front, because they know that if they attack from the front, they will lose in 5 minutes. This attack of Rahul is like a challenge to the Sangh in many ways. What happened during the Lok Sabha elections
In the Lok Sabha elections held this year, the All India Alliance was able to win 30 seats out of 48 Lok Sabha seats in Maharashtra. Congress won the maximum number of 13 seats. BJP came down from 22 to 8. Rahul had made a strategy to try this mantra of his victory once again in the Maharashtra assembly elections.
Rahul started with Nagpur rally
Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge participated in the Maha Vikas Aghadi program in Mumbai after the Samvidhan Samman Sammelan in Nagpur. The Nagpur rally is a strategy to balance the political equation of Vidarbha, where Dalit and OBC voters are in large numbers. Congress got more seats from Vidarbha belt and Marathwada region in Maharashtra in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. That is why Congress is focusing on these areas in the assembly elections as well and is trying to balance the caste equations. When Rahul Gandhi announced his entry into politics in 2004
In March 2004, Gandhi announced his entry into politics. He said that he would contest the 14th general election for the Lok Sabha, the lower house of the Parliament of India, from his father’s former constituency Amethi in Uttar Pradesh. Till then his mother Sonia Gandhi used to contest from this seat. After this, Sonia started contesting from Rae Bareli, a constituency adjacent to Amethi. At that time when Rahul made this announcement, people were quite surprised about it, because political experts considered Rahul’s sister Priyanka Gandhi to be more charismatic and a potential successor. In such a situation, if Congress is not able to win the Maharashtra elections, then questions may be raised on Rahul’s leadership and strategy.
How BJP turned the tables in Haryana
The results of the Haryana assembly elections proved most election analysts wrong. After being in power for ten years, BJP formed the government for the third consecutive time. BJP won 48 out of the total 90 assembly seats in the state. It was being said for the ruling BJP, which lost 5 out of 10 seats in the Lok Sabha elections, that these elections would not be easy. Before the results, from social media to TV channels, the issues of farmers, soldiers and wrestlers were being blamed for the defeat of BJP.
These factors were responsible for BJP’s victory in Haryana
In the year 2014, BJP formed the government in Haryana for the first time. The party made Manohar Lal, who comes from the non-Jat i.e. Punjabi Khatri community, the Chief Minister’s chair. With this, the party started mobilizing the non-Jat community in the state. BJP also fought the 2019 assembly elections on his face. In the 2024 assembly elections too, the party chose Nayab Saini, who comes from the OBC community. A narrative was created about the Jats in the elections that if the Congress government came, Bhupendra Singh Hooda would be the Chief Minister. Against this, BJP tried to unite the non-Jat community and in this effort, a large part of the Dalit vote bank along with the OBC also went to the party’s account.

Kerala High Court denies bail to cop accused of raping minor Dalit girl
A police officer, arrested for the rape of an underaged girl, was denied bail by the Kerala High Court. According to the court, his "heinous crime" did not qualify him for bail.

In Short
- Kerala High Court denies police officer’s bail petition
- Cop accused of raping 14-year-old girl two years ago
- Prosecution says he ‘seduced’ victim before raping her
The Kerala High Court denied bail to a police officer, accused of raping a 14-year-old school girl two years ago on Children’s Day, saying he committed a “heinous offence”.
The judge, Justice K Babu, denied the bail petition of the officer, who at the time of the rape was a Student Police Cadet instructor at the victim’s school. Justice Babu said the officer had committed “heinous” crime and was, thus, not qualified to “be released on bail”.

Stating that the prosecution had placed evidence that “would reveal that the appellant (police officer) is alleged to have committed heinous offences”, the High Court ruled: “The prosecution has established a prima facie case.”
According to the prosecution, the victim was a member of a Scheduled Caste community, and the accused seduced her by maintaining a relationship with her over the phone.
The prosecution told the court that the accused took the victim to a a house near Kodungallur in Thrissur district on November 14, 2022, on pretext of a birthday treat and then raped her.
The High Court order came on the officer’s application challenging a session court’s decision that rejected his bail application.
The officer was arrested on September 26, 2024 and has been in judicial custody since then.
The officer was booked for various offences, including rape, under the Indian Penal Code, the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and the Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.
J&K’s New Reservation Policy Sparks Political Firestorm
Will Sit Outside CM's Residence If Policy Not Reviewed By Dec 22: Ruhullah

Srinagar- The new reservation policy in Jammu and Kashmir has triggered a heated political debate, with opposition parties criticizing the policy and demanding its limitation to 50%. The policy, introduced after the region’s reorganization, includes reservations for Other Backward Classes (OBC) for the first time and grants Scheduled Tribe (ST) status to hill and other tribal communities.
Notably, the new framework has expanded reservations from 43% to nearly 60%, reducing opportunities for the general category to 40%.
While the government defends the policy as a step toward social empowerment, parties like the National Conference (NC) and People’s Democratic Party (PDP) argue that it compromises the representation of general category candidates in jobs and educational institutions.
NC MP Aga Syed Ruhullah has issued an ultimatum to the state government, warning of a sit-in outside the Chief Minister’s residence if the policy isn’t reviewed by December 22. PDP MLA Waheed ur Rehman Para has also called for a practical and equitable policy, stating, “Opportunities for general category people are shrinking. Reservation should be based on population ratio.”
The controversy intensified with news of recruitment for 575 lecturer posts in the education department. Of these, only 238 are allocated to the general category, while the rest are distributed among various reserved categories, including SC, ST-1, ST-2, OBC, and others. The policy change has particularly impacted the Gujjar-Bakarwal community, now classified under ST-1, while hill tribes are categorized as ST-2. This division aims to prevent dilution of existing quotas for the Gujjar-Bakarwal population.
The Congress and BJP have largely remained silent on the issue, signalling its sensitivity.
In contrast, NC and PDP have promised to review the policy if voted to power. Syed Amjad Shah, an expert on Jammu and Kashmir affairs, pointed out, “The government is the biggest employer in the region, and reservation has become a critical issue. Missteps could prove politically costly.”
Measuring the scale of the policy’s impact, Shah highlighted that 69% of Jammu and Kashmir’s population falls under the general category, yet their opportunities are shrinking. The regions of Poonch and Rajouri, on the other hand, see a near-total reservation due to the concentration of SC, ST, OBC, and other reserved communities. The government has urged patience as it works on resolving the matter. NC MP Aga Syed Ruhullah remains firm, stating, “If a decision isn’t made by December 22, I will sit on a dharna.” Meanwhile, PDP and other parties are pressing for an equitable approach, warning of the implications for equality and social harmony.
The End.
