UP Dalit man’s head shaved, paraded over religious conversion

The Dalit man was dragged to a local temple where he was forced to bow down and recite the Hanuman Chalisa.
In a disturbing incident of caste-based violence, a Dalit man identified as Shubran Paswan was subjected to public humiliation by Hindutva groups affiliated with Bajrang Dal and Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP). The incident took place in Uttar Pradesh’s Fatehpur district on Friday, December 27.
The incident unfolded when Paswan was accused of converting to Christianity. The Hindutva groups confronted him aggressively shaved his head, beat him with shoes and dragged him to a local temple where he was forced to bow down and recite the Hanuman Chalisa.
A video of the disturbing assault that has surfaced on social media shows Paswan visibly distressed being escorted by the aggressive crowd and paraded through the streets of their villages amid “Jai Shri Ram” chants.
Police refused to register complaint: Dalit man
Paswan alleged that he was not only physically assaulted but also psychological abuse and being subjected to casteist slurs such as “chamar” during the incident.
He further alleged that despite his attempts to file a formal complaint, the police refused to register his case, a move that has ignited outrage from Dalit community members.
The police authorities’ alleged inaction promoted protests with social activities demanding accountability and justice. Additionally, Pawan submitted a memorandum to the district magistrate demanding strict action against the perpetrators.
Dalit man wanted to reconvert: Bajrang Dal
On the other hand, a senior leader of Bajrang Dal and VHP attempted to justify the incident claiming that Paswan had converted to Christianity and later approached them expressing a desire to “return to Sanatan Dharma”.
While the Hindutva leaders framed the incident as a voluntary act, the aggression displayed in the video depicts a different picture. Critics argue that the incident was less about religion and more about asserting dominance over marginalized communities and the lack of legal repercussion encourages extremists to conduct this kind of hostile attack.

Congress always cheated Dalits including Ambedkar: MP Jigajinagi

Vijayapura: The Congress is shedding crocodile tears over Dalit issues. I will soon expose its true colours, said MP Ramesh Jigajinagi.
Speaking to media persons here on Saturday, Jigajinagi stated that Amit Shah’s speech in parliament should be viewed in its entirety. “Congress members have distorted his words for false propaganda. Shah spoke with respect about Ambedkar, but Congress twisted it. After his speech in the Rajya Sabha, I watched it at Minister Piyush Goyal’s house at 8pm and found that Shah did not insult Ambedkar. The essence of Shah’s speech was different. He mentioned what Congress did when talking about Ambedkar. But they twisted it to falsely claim that Shah wronged and insulted Dalits. Seven or eight of us MPs watched it that night. Congressmen distorted Shah’s clear statement about the injustice that Congress did to Babasaheb,” he added.
He further said, “Congress never did justice for Dalits. With this background, in 2004, I told Dalits that I would never join Congress and joined BJP. Shah told Congress that mentioning Ambedkar’s name has become a fashion. There is no substance in the opposition’s allegations. This is an attempt to tarnish our govt’s reputation.”
He alleged that Congress did not provide six feet of space for Ambedkar’s funeral in Delhi. “Shah also asked what Congress did for Babasaheb. Some Congressmen have kept 300 acres of land for the dead in their homes. Aren’t they ashamed?” he questioned.
At the same time, commenting on the late former Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh, the MP said, “When Dr Singh was Prime Minister, I was also an MP. It is not right to say today how Congress used such a good man. Dr Singh paved the way for an economic policy for this country. People worldwide sought his economic advice. When he was Prime Minister, I visited the multi-village drinking water scheme in 76 villages of Indi taluk. As an opposition Lok Sabha member, I called him for an appointment. That evening, he gave me time. When I explained the purpose of the visit, he immediately approved the scheme. I bowed to him then. He was such a great man. He did not look at the party. I would also support giving Bharat Ratna to Singh,” Jigajinagi added.
BJP district president RS Patil Kuchabal, former MLAs Ramesh Bhusanoor, Somanagouda Patil, leaders Vijugouda Patil, Vijay Joshi, and others were present on the occasion.
