Dravidians and Nagas Are One And The Same People – Dr Ambedkar
Who are the Dravidians? Are they different from the Nagas?
Or are they two different names for a people of the same race?
It is a fact that the term Dravidians and Nagas are merely two different names for the same people.
It is not to be denied that very few will be prepared to admit the proposition that the Dravidians and Nagas are merely two different names for the same people and fewer that the Dravidians as Nagas occupied not merely South India but that they occupied the whole of India—South as well as North.
Nonetheless, these are historical truths. Nagas and Dravidians are one and the same people.
Even with this much of proof, people may not be ready to accept the thesis. The chief difficulty in the way of accepting it lies in the designation of the people of South India by the name Dravidian.
It is natural for them to ask why the term Dravidian has come to be restricted to the people of South India if they are really Nagas. Critics are bound to ask: If the Dravidians and the Nagas are the same people, why is the name Nagas not used to designate people of South India also…
The word ‘Dravida’ is not an original word. It is the Sanskritized form of the word ‘Tamil’. The original word ‘Tamil’ when imported into Sanskrit became ‘Damilla’ and later on ‘Damita’ became Dravida. The word Dravida is the name of the language of the people and does not denote the race of the people.
3)The third thing to remember is that Tamil or Dravida was not merely the language of South India but before the Aryans came it was the language of the whole of India and was spoken from Kashmir to Cape Comorin. In fact, it was the language of the Nagas throughout India.
The next thing to note is the contact between the Aryans and the Nagas and the effect it produced on the Nagas and their language. Strange as it may appear the effect of this contact on the Nagas of North India was quite different from the effect it produced on the Nagas of South India.
The Nagas in North India gave up Tamil which was their mother tongue and adopted Sanskrit in its place. The Nagas in South India retained Tamil as their mother tongue and did not adopt Sanskrit the language of the Aryans.
If this difference is borne in mind it will help to explain why the name Dravida came to be applied only to the people of South India. The necessity for the application of the name Dravida to the Nagas of Northern India had ceased because they had ceased to speak the Dravida language.
But so far as the Nagas of South India are concerned not only the propriety of calling them Dravida had remained in view of their adherence to the Dravida language but the necessity of calling them Dravida had become very urgent in view of their being the only people speaking the Dravida language after the Nagas of North had ceased to use it.
This is the real reason why the people of South India have come to be called Dravidians. The special application of the word Dravida for the people of South India must not, therefore, obscure the fact that the Nagas and Dravidas are the one and the same people. They are only two different names for the same people.
Nagas was a racial or cultural name and Dravida was their linguistic name.
Thus the Dasas are the same as the Nagas and the Nagas are the same as the Dravidians. In other words what we can say about the races of India is that there have been at the most only two races in the field, the Aryans and the Nagas.

Odisha to Introduce SEBC Student Reservation in Technical Education
The Odisha government has announced its plan to provide reservations for Socially and Educationally Backward Classes (SEBC) students in technical education.
Skill Development & Technical Education Minister Sampad Chandra Swain disclosed the development earlier today.
“The state government will soon announce reservations for SEBC students in technical education. We are currently reviewing all aspects of implementation,” stated Minister Swain, who represents Paradeep in Jagatsinghpur.
Earlier this month, the Odisha Cabinet, led by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, approved a proposal to allocate seats for SEBC students in government-run higher education institutions. Beginning in the 2025–26 academic year, 11.25% of seats in public universities and state-aided institutions will be reserved for SEBC students.
Alongside this, the government will continue to offer reservations of 22.5% for Scheduled Tribe (ST) students, 16.25% for Scheduled Caste (SC) students, 5% for Persons with Disabilities (PwD), and 1% for Ex-Servicemen (ESM). The reservation applies to undergraduate, postgraduate, vocational, law, teacher training, and physical education courses.
The move is expected to enhance educational access for disadvantaged communities and further the government’s agenda of equitable education opportunities across Odisha.

Edited Photo Shared with False Claim of Insult to Dr. Ambedkar’s Statue in the US
A photo of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar is being circulated on social media. In this image, a person appears to be disrespecting Ambedkar’s statue by showing the middle finger. While sharing this photo, a user named Swami Anand Swaroop wrote, “The British turned out to be shocking traitors. This is how they treat someone who supported them all his life? We strongly condemn this and expect the Bhim Army to file a case against this British person under the SC/ST Act. #Constitution_Maker_BN_Rao.“

Fact Check:
The DFRAC team investigated the viral claim and found that the image is edited. In reality, the photo is from Provo City Library in the United States, where a statue of Brigham Young is installed. According to the Provo Library’s website, the library was established in 1905. Efforts to set up library services in Provo had been made even before 1905. In 1854, there was a collection of 120 volumes for community use.

Additionally, a report by “Big Statues” revealed that another statue was commissioned to be installed at the Provo Library years later. The previous statue created by Big Statues was of Brigham Young, a prominent figure in the state of Utah.

A photo posted on Flickr.com on August 25, 2005, shows the Brigham Young statue at Provo Library, and it can be viewed online.

Upon closely examining the viral image, it was found that Brigham Young’s statue was edited and replaced with a photo of Dr. Ambedkar. The image of Ambedkar’s statue used in the edit was originally posted on Facebook by a user named SthapathiCreations on March 21, 2020.

In the provided collage, one can clearly see the differences between the images — Brigham Young’s statue has been replaced with Ambedkar’s statue through editing.

Conclusion:
DFRAC’s fact check confirms that the viral image of Dr. Ambedkar on social media is digitally altered. Therefore, the user’s claim is misleading.

Kerala RSS Mouthpiece Editor In Kerala Arrested, Released On Bail Kerala Gilvester Assary 31 May 2025 12:50 AM RSS mouthpiece editor arrested in Kerala for alleged hate speech against Dalit rapper Vedan; controversy spotlights growing tensions over caste discourse in art and politics. N.R. Madhu, editor of Kesari, after being released on bail in Kollam, following arrest over remarks against rapper Vedan’s caste-centric music that highlights Dalit struggles.(Image: File) THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kerala police arrested N R Madhu, the chief editor of RSS mouthpiece Kesari on Friday in connection with a case involving alleged hate speech against the subaltern rapper Hirandas Murali popularly known as Vedan. Madhu appeared before the East Kallada police, where his statement was recorded, and he was later released on bail. The case was initiated against Madhu based on a complaint filed by Velayudhan, the local secretary of the CPI(M) in East Kallada. During a speech at a temple event in Kundara, Klllam, Madhu accused Vedan of promoting caste based extremism through his songs. He claimed that Vedan's music spreads negative views about caste among the youth and alleged that his "toxic art" is sponsored by elements seeking to destabilise the country. Also Read - Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar Takes Oath as 23rd Governor of Kerala Advertisement After his release on bail, Madhu reaffirmed his comments about Vedan, stating that his remarks were not a personal attack on the rapper, but rather a critique of the political messages he conveys. A section of Sangh Parivar leaders is concerned about Vedan's songs, believing they contribute to divisions within the Hindu community. In contrast, Vedan's music highlights the struggles of social reformers like Ayyankali, who fought for the rights of Dalits in Kerala. His lyrics reflect the inhumane treatment faced by Dalits in the past. Also Read - 10-Year-Old Girl Dies, 18 Students Hurt in Kerala School Bus Accident Supporters of Vedan argue that many history books and political parties, including teh Left , have downplayed caste issues. For decades, communist parties focused primarily on class and dismissed caste as "identity politics." However, in the post-Mandal era, there is growing acknowledgement of the significance of identity politics. Parties like the CPM, which previously criticised the Congress and BJP for creating separate organisations for Dalits and adivasis, have now established their own Dalit and tribal organisations in Kerala - the Pattikajati Kshema Samithi (PKS) and Adivasi Kshema Samithi (AKS). "I will continue to raise these issues. I am not concerned about what others are doing; they may have political motivations," he said. Supporters of Vedan assert that his songs do not reflect helplessness among marginalised groups, but a strong determination to combat all forms of discrimination. This empowering message resonates widely with youth people, causing discomfort among those with a feudal mindset.
