Cooperation Sought for the Successful Completion of Scheduled Caste Survey–Uma Mahadevan

Additional Chief Secretary to the Government and Development Commissioner Uma Mahadevan also serves as the Chairperson of the State-Level Coordination Committee,has appealed to leaders and office-bearers of the Scheduled Caste (SC) communities to extend full cooperation for the successful completion of the SC survey within the BBMP limits.

At a consultative meeting held today at the Dr.Rajkumar Glass House,BBMP Head Office,with SC community leaders and office-bearers,she emphasized the importance of progressing the SC survey in the urban area.

In compliance with directions from the High Court, a comprehensive survey of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes is being conducted under the chairmanship of retired Justice Dr. H.N.Nagamohan Das, through a single-member commission.

She noted that the survey aims not only to scientifically determine caste data but also to analyze the community’s socio-economic conditions.

She acknowledged delays in the survey due to continuous rains in the city,but informed that the survey is being conducted in three phases:door-to-door, at camps, and through voluntary online submissions.Strict action will be taken against officials who do not perform their duties diligently, she warned.

Awareness campaigns under Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) activities are being carried out to ensure participation from all sections in the urban survey.

Advertisements have also been published in the media. For the survey to be completed successfully,the cooperation of community leaders and office-bearers is essential, she emphasized, urging the SC communities to extend their full support.

*State-Level Committee Member and Principal Secretary to the Government, Manivannan,stated that dedicated officers are being deployed for each ward within the BBMP limits to accelerate the survey process.

A support team is actively working to resolve issues encountered during the survey.For any survey-related grievances, the public may call the helpline at 9481359000.

*BBMP Chief Commissioner Maheshwar Rao said that some people are still hesitant to participate in the SC survey. In this regard,he emphasized the importance of community leaders’support and urged them to raise awareness among their people about participating in the survey.

Special camps are being organized by the BBMP to ensure successful completion of the survey.

*Special Commissioner (Welfare) and Secretary of the BBMP Coordination Committee Suralkar Vikas Kishor mentioned that enumerators are being deployed near Pourakarmika Mustering points to conduct the survey efficiently.

*Key Suggestions Provided by SC Community Leaders/Office Bearers:

*There is a lack of comprehensive awareness within the community regarding the SC survey.Steps should be taken to inform them about the purpose and importance of the survey.

*Proper training should be given to enumerators before deploying them for the survey.

*Distribute leaflets in SC-dominated areas to raise awareness.

*Ensure that no one is excluded from the survey process.

*Use loudspeakers to spread awareness about the ongoing survey.

*Address and rectify technical glitches in the digital platform developed for the survey.

*Deploy additional enumerators to expedite the survey.

*Although caste certificates are not required, some enumerators are still insisting on them.Strict action should be taken against such individuals.

*Consider extending the survey deadline in urban areas.

* Appoint local residents as enumerators to improve outreach and effectiveness.

* Conduct door-to-door surveys during morning and evening hours for better coverage.

The meeting was also attended by former minister H. Anjaneya,State-Level Coordination Committee Secretary and Social Welfare Department Commissioner Rakesh Kumar, and various SC community leaders and representatives.
