Organizations of Hindus are irresponsibly watching the harassment of Indian Children (students) by US administration. By Hem Raj Jain

India is a Hindu majority country. When in Article 25 of the Constitution of India it was mentioned that -”[Explanation II.—In sub-clause (b) of clause (2), the reference to Hindus shall be construed as including a reference to persons professing the Sikh, Jaina or Buddhist religion, and the reference to Hindu religious institutions shall be construed accordingly]” - it was construed by Indians and others that Hindus, Sikhs, Jains and Buddhists are all Hindus and this created problems for Hindus (which is in huge majority among Hindus in India) in the sense that now what their religion be called if not Hinduism. Hence they devised a way-out  that their religion Hinduism now should not be called Hinduism but Sanatan Dharma giving a false impression that it is the religion followed eternally (from the beginning) by most of the people in India though there is no trace of this Santatn Dharma in the remains of Indus valley civilization and present Hinduism came with Vedic Aryans as has been mentioned  by Savarkar (the ideological father of Hindutva forces) in his book “The Hindutva” published in 1923 (where first ‘two nation theory was propounded which Jinnah of Muslim League exploited and which Gandhi, Nehru, Patel etc of Congress succumb to for partitioning India on the basis of religion in 1947) .  But it is not the proper subject matter of this article hence leave it.

In the USA there are organizations of Hindus (Of Sanatanis, of Jains, of Sikhs and of Buddhists) which have the following of large numbers of the followers of respective religions but obviously the organizations of Sanatanis have the largest following. That is the reason the organizations of Sanatanis in the USA are more influential,  due to additional factor that there is a government in India of Hindutva forces (mainly of Sanatanais) led by PM Modi hence these Sanatanis promote PM Modi in the USA also through various propagandist programs whenever PM Modi visits India. Naturally these organizations of Santanis are quite influential in the USA also due to the reason that after Jews Indians (being economically well-off) are the second most influential community in the USA https://ddnews.gov.in/en/from-farming-to-politics-the-growing-influence-of-the-indian-american-community-in-u-s-elections/

Therefore it is surprising rather condemnable that the Organizations of Sanatanis are irresponsibly watching  the harassment of Indian Children (students) by Trump-administration as happened recently too as reported at https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/world/indian-student-handcuffed-pinned-down-at-airport-had-entered-us-illegally/ar-AA1Gw4eT?ocid=BingNewsSerp . In this media repot it is mischievously  mentioned that this student entered the USA illegally which is not possible because Indian students have been coming for many decades to the USA only legally.

Though other organizations of Hindus (of Sikhs or of Jains or of Buddhusts) also could have done something to help Indian children (students)   who are unnecessarily harassed by Trump-administration but the responsibility of the organization of Sanatanis is much more (to do as given below) due to their larger number and large resources with them especially when Indian students are in hundreds of thousands (https://www.nbcnews.com/news/asian-america/indian-students-surpass-chinese-largest-international-group-rcna180783 ) and they all have become vulnerable due to highhanded policies of current Trump-administration.

For example firstly these Santanis in the USA through a press conference can ask the Government of India of Hindutva forces led by so-called Hindu Hriday Samrat (the emperor of the hearts of Hindus) PM Modi  to enter into a system / arrangement with the USA where all Indian students should enter or leave from one US-airport having staff of the Indian embassy . consulates at such US-airport to sort out any such problem (of Indian students) related to immigration laws. If US- administration doesn't cooperate about making such arrangement then these Sanatanis in the USA should tell PM Modi that  India should give 3 days ultimatum to the USA that India shall sever all diplomatic relations with the USA if such or any other satisfactory arrangement is not put in place.

Secondly these Sanatanis in the USA through the said press conference . should ask PM Modi to tell the USA in clear terms that India and Indians have always condemned the terrorist attack of October 7, 2023 on Israel by Hamas also because  Israel is the closest friend of India (as revealed during operation SIndoor against Pakistan where Israel supported INdia in every way including militarily) but at the same time India and every Indian have always supported the cause & human rights of  innocent  Palestinians ( as was expressed even by former Prez Biden too https://apnews.com/article/biden-israel-hamas-oct-7-44c4229d4c1270d9cfa484b664a22071 ) therefore any harassment of Indian students  ( as  happened in the case of Rajani Shrinivasan at Columbia University and to Badr Kansoori at Georgetown university https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vum3AyNWzmM ) simply because they supported the cause and human rights of Palestinians by exercising their right of expression is not acceptable to India and expects Trump -administration to ensure that Indian children (students) are not unnecessarily harassed if they talk about defending the human rights of the innocent Palestinians. Maximum if Trump-administration wants then can prescribe the manner in which Indian students can express their support to the cause and human rights of the Palestinians.

Thirdly, the organizations of Sanatanis can launch a cell which can keep in computerized way the information about all the Indian students in the USA and about any problem (including related to immigration laws) faced by them and help provided by this Sanatani organization to the needy Indian students.

Fourthly if the  Sanatanis in the USA decide to start respecting rule of law (which they didn’t do in India) then they should launch a political party in the USA (i)- Which will work to launch a new rule based global order led by the USA because existing global order of the UN has been demolished by Ukraine war and in this age of globalization the mankind can’t live without rule based global order and (ii)- To become political force to reckon with (which they can do easily) - which will ensure that no US-administration (contrary to what the  present Trump-administration is doing) takes  INdia / Indians for granted and harass Indians by flouting rule-of-law.

It is hoped the organizations of the Sanatanis in the USA would rise to the occasion and would do some d. useful work on ground so that the Indian children (students) don't face inhuman treatment (as given to criminals) just because the Trump-administration has taken India / Indians for granted.

CPI protests dilution of free education scheme for SC/ST students in Puducherry

The CPI has protested in Puducherry against private institutions allegedly charging SC/ST students despite a government-funded free education scheme. The party demands strict action and dialogue to uphold the scheme’s intent.

The Communist Party of India (CPI) has launched a protest in Puducherry against the perceived dilution of a free education scheme intended for Scheduled Caste (SC) and Scheduled Tribe (ST) students, The Hindu reported. According to a petition submitted to Chief Minister N. Rangasamy, there are complaints that private educational institutions are not adhering to the provisions of the scheme, which aims to support the Adi Dravidar community in the Union Territory.

Despite government funding, these institutions reportedly demand additional payments from students. The party argues that this practice undermines the scheme's purpose and adds undue financial strain on families who are already economically disadvantaged.

CPI's Puducherry secretary, AM Saleem, emphasised the need for government action to ensure that educational institutions do not charge additional fees to students benefiting from the scheme. Saleem suggested that a meeting should be convened between private educational institutions and officials from the Adi Dravidar and education departments to address the implementation challenges. Such a meeting could serve as a platform for dialogue and resolution, ensuring that the scheme is executed without imposing undue financial burdens on the students.

The party believes that transparent communication between all stakeholders is essential for the scheme's success. The protest was marked by a demonstration near the Legislative Assembly. This public display was organised to draw attention to the issues surrounding the administration of the free education scheme for students from socially marginalised sections.

Party members argue that without proper oversight, the scheme's potential impact is being undermined. They urge the government to take immediate corrective measures to uphold the scheme's integrity.

CPI's concerns centre on ensuring that funds provided by the government actually alleviate financial burdens on the students as intended. The party stresses that any deviation from the scheme's mandate could compromise the educational opportunities available to SC and ST students.

The situation highlights the broader challenges in ensuring equitable access to education in India. The implementation of government schemes often encounters hurdles, particularly when reliant on intermediary institutions, such as private schools, that may not align entirely with government objectives. This misalignment can lead to inefficiencies and a dilution of the scheme's intended benefits.

The issue of educational equity remains pressing, as demonstrated by the CPI's call for systematic interventions to secure the intended benefits of the free education scheme.

HC stays gov resolution asking minority institutions to enforce quotas in FYJC admissions

MUMBAI: Bombay HC stayed Maharashtra's resolution mandating reservations for SC/ST and OBC in minority colleges, stating it violates minority rights.

MUMBAI: The Bombay high court on Thursday stayed a resolution issued by the Maharashtra government on May 6, which said that minority educational institutes must have reservation for Scheduled Castes/Schedule Tribes (SC/ST) and Other Backward Classes (OBCs) in first year junior college (FYJC) admissions.

Stating that social reservation should not be applicable to any seat in a minority educational institution, a division bench of justices M S Karnik and N R Borkar stayed the resolution and asked the state to update the FYJC admission portal. The court asked the state to respond in four weeks and scheduled the next hearing on August 6.

The order follows petitions filed by Solapur’s APD Jain Pathashala, a minority institution that runs the Walchand College of Arts and Science and the Hirachand Nemchand College of Commerce in Mumbai, and another petition by the Maharashtra Association of Minority Educational Institutions.

Senior advocate Milind Sathe, represented the petitioners, and said that according to the Constitution of India, minority educational institutes, both aided or unaided, need not have reservations for socially and educationally backward classes. He added that a similar government resolution issued in 2019 was also withdrawn after it was challenged in the court.

The court on Wednesday had asked government pleader Neha Bhide to check whether the government was willing to drop minority institutions from the scope of the resolution.

Bhide on Thursday told the court that she had not received any instructions from the government to change the resolution. She added that the resolution did not violate the Indian Constitution and said, “It is only if the seats remain unfilled and are surrendered that the social reservation comes into place.”

The high court had, on Wednesday, questioned the resolution. The court had said that this could just be a mistake by the government for which a correction can be issued, and that an order from the court was not necessary when it came to making such corrections.

The Maharashtra Association of Minority Educational Institutions (MAMEI) had raised objections about the FYJC admission process for the academic year 2025-26 and said that minority colleges until recently followed a fixed seat distribution of 50% for minority quota, 10% for in-house students, 5% for management quota, and 35% for the rest, including the sports quota and ex-servicemen quota.

This year, the government changed the rules for admissions to minority institutions and imposed a reservation for SC/STs and OBCs on the 35% of seats which were in the open category. MAMEI said that the previous reservation structure was legally protected and upheld by the high court and the Supreme Court, and added that the latter had earlier dismissed a petition by the state which challenged the autonomy of minority institutions.
