Three arrested for assaulting family, hurling caste abuses

The case was registered on the complaint of Akhil Raj, 24, of Madanpura, Kavinpuram, under Vilappil police station limits.
According to police, the incident took place on the night of May 16 when an eight-member gang allegedly barged into the victim’s house and attacked Raj, his father Baburaj and mother Lathika Kumari. The accused are also alleged to have abused the victims by using caste-related slurs during the assault, leading to the invocation of relevant provisions of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.
Police said the attack stemmed from previous enmity between Raj and the accused. Following an investigation, the three accused were traced and taken into custody. Efforts are under way to identify and apprehend the remaining members of the eight-member gang allegedly involved in the incident.
The accused were produced before a local court and remanded in judicial custody. Further investigation is in progress to establish the role of the other accused and the circumstances leading to the attack, police said.

Court rejects bail plea in SC/ST atrocity case

JAMMU, July 25: Principal Sessions Judge Jammu RN Watal has dismissed the bail application of three persons accused of criminal trespass, issuing caste-based abuses and using sexually offensive language against a woman belonging to the Scheduled Caste community, observing that the accused had allegedly "crossed all limits" and that their custodial interrogation was required.
Principal Sessions Judge Jammu, R.N. Watal, also exercising powers as Special Judge under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, rejected the bail plea filed by Devinder Singh, Amit Gupta and Lokesh Gupta, terming it premature in view of the preliminary stage of investigation.
The case arises from FIR No. 124/2026 registered at Police Station Bishnah under Sections 79, 351(2), 352 and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, besides Section 3 of the SC/ST Act.
According to the police report, the accused, accompanied by three or four unidentified persons, allegedly entered the complainant's plot in a Ford Figo car on July 9 without her consent. They were accused of abusing the complainant and her husband, making caste-based remarks, issuing threats and directing obscene and sexually derogatory language towards the woman.
The court observed that the allegations were serious and that granting bail at this stage could hamper the investigation. It said the alleged conduct reflected a belief in the policy of "might is right" and that extending bail would hurt the sentiments of the complainant and her husband.
The petitioners, however, claimed that they had been falsely implicated due to an ongoing civil and property dispute. Their counsel, Advocate Suresh Sharma, argued that the complainant had received Rs 2.50 crore as full and final consideration for the sale of land and a petrol station but was allegedly demanding an additional Rs 1.50 crore.
The defence maintained that the criminal case had been lodged to exert pressure upon the petitioners and assured the court that they would cooperate with the investigation.
Opposing the plea, Public Prosecutor Hemanshu Parkash submitted that the investigation was at its initial stage and that custodial interrogation of the accused was necessary. Advocate Abhishek Singh Parihar, appearing for the complainant, also sought dismissal of the application, citing the statutory restrictions applicable to bail in offences under the SC/ST Act.
The court observed that despite legislative and administrative measures, members of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes continued to face humiliation, harassment and denial of civil rights. It said that granting bail in the present circumstances could erode the faith of the common man in the judicial institution.
Accordingly, the bail application was dismissed as premature.

Hyderabad: On June 27, a group of men walked into Bharat Chandra School in Armoor, in Telangana’s Nizamabad district and confronted the principal in front of the police. The principal, 37-year-old Amer Khan, was slapped. The man who slapped him was Mandula Balu, the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) town president in Armoor. The alleged offence was that the school had allowed Urdu to be taught.
Within 24 hours of his remand, Balu was granted conditional bail. Khan, the man who was hit, is now before the Telangana High Court seeking anticipatory bail in a case filed against him.
That inversion, where the assaulted becomes the accused, is the thread running through Telangana’s second quarter.
Dalit woman denied payment, subjected to casteist slurs: Casteist slurs and assault upon protest; FIR filed a month later
In Vidyarthipuram village, under the Bichhwan police station area of Mainpuri, a Dalit woman was denied payment after purchasing goods from a shop. When she protested, the accused used casteist slurs against her and assaulted her, leaving her injured. An FIR has been filed a month after the incident.
Vidyarthipuram resident Sapna, wife of Mansingh Jatav, stated in her FIR that on June 21st, at 2 p.m., she was alone at her grocery store when Akash, son of Sukhpal, and Nitin Chauhan, son of Guddan, from the neighboring village of Garh Nagla Bhagat, came to her shop and purchased goods.
When Sapna asked for money, the accused began abusing her. They used casteist slurs and threatened to kill her if she complained.

विद्यार्थीपुरम निवासी सपना, जो मानसिंह जाटव की पत्नी हैं, ने अपनी एफआईआर में बताया कि 21 जून को दोपहर 2 बजे, वह अपनी किराने की दुकान पर अकेली थीं, तभी पड़ोसी गांव गढ़ नगला भगत से सुखपाल का बेटा आकाश और गुड्डन का बेटा नितिन चौहान उनकी दुकान पर आए और सामान खरीदा।
जब सपना ने पैसे मांगे तो आरोपियों ने उसे गाली देना शुरू कर दिया। उन्होंने जातिवादी गालियां दीं और शिकायत करने पर जान से मारने की धमकी दी।

महिला ने उच्च अधिकारियों के समक्ष शिकायत दर्ज कराई। इसके बाद 25 जुलाई को मामला दर्ज किया गया और 26 जुलाई को महिला की चिकित्सा जांच कराई गई। थाना अधिकारी आशीष दुबे ने बताया कि शिकायत के आधार पर एफआईआर दर्ज कर ली गई है और जांच के बाद आगे की कार्रवाई की जाएगी।
