⚖️ 1.) Calcutta High Court — Facebook caste-abuse case
On 5 October, the Calcutta High Court ordered a further cyber investigation into a complaint alleging casteist abuse on Facebook. The Court set aside acceptance of a “Nil/No clue” investigation report, holding that available digital evidence had not been adequately pursued. It also said that previous complaints by the same complainant cannot automatically discredit a separate caste-abuse complaint. �

⚖️ 2.) Calcutta HC — another SC/ST Act ruling
Another Calcutta High Court order reported on 5 October quashed SC/ST Act proceedings against five people, finding that the material before the Court did not establish that the alleged caste insult occurred “within public view.” The allegations arose in a matrimonial dispute. �

🇮🇳 3. )Uttar Pradesh — five-year delay in Dalit atrocity case
An Ayodhya SC/ST Special Court summoned the station officer of Inayatnagar police station after an order in a Dalit atrocity case allegedly remained uncomplied with for 1,863 days — more than five years. The officer was directed to appear personally and explain why contempt proceedings should not be initiated. The underlying 2021 case concerns alleged casteist abuse and assault. �

🇮🇳 4. Telangana — SC/ST Act case registered
A report published early on 6 October says police in Nalgonda district registered a case under the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act after a woman alleged casteist abuse and assault during a Gram Sabha meeting. Police said the investigation is continuing. These are allegations at the investigation stage, not a finding of guilt. �

🇮🇳 5.) Tamil Nadu — temple-entry discrimination
The Kallakurichi temple-entry incident reported on 5 October remains one of the significant SC-related developments: police and district authorities intervened after Dalit residents were reportedly prevented from entering a temple. The temple was opened to enable their worship.
This is an alleged discrimination/entry dispute, so the facts established by investigation and any subsequent court proceedings should be distinguished from the initial allegations.

🇮🇳 7.) NHRC — Bihar human-rights hearing
The National Human Rights Commission announced on 5 October that it will hold a two-day open hearing and camp sitting in Patna on 7–8 October 2026 to hear alleged human-rights violations. The programme includes complaints, compliance matters, bonded-labour cases and interaction with civil-society organisations and human-rights defenders. �

SC status and conversion.
The Supreme Court's 24 March 2026 decision in Chinthada Anand v. State of Andhra Pradesh held, in the circumstances of that case, that a person professing Christianity could not claim Scheduled Caste status under the existing Constitution (Scheduled Castes) Order, 1950, and consequently could not invoke the SC/ST Act as an SC member. �

This is especially important for discussions concerning Dalit Christians, Dalit Muslims, Buddhism and Ambedkarite conversion, because the 1950 Order currently recognises SC status for persons professing Hinduism, Sikhism or Buddhism, subject to its provisions.
